Keeping or owning of wolf hybrids is illegal in Sweden. Pet dogs not complying
with the rules will not be allowed to enter Sweden.

means of a permanent tattoo or have a micro-chip implanted. The ID number shall
be present in all vaccination certificates as well as in the blood test result
document from the laboratory. There is no requirement for the tattoo number to
be taken from an official register. The major part of the Swedish tourist

capable of reading micro chips which conforms to the ISO standards. The Swedish
Board of Agriculture does not guarantee that this equipment is available.

VACCINATIONS: (please note that the
dog must be ID marked before it is vaccinated/tested for antibodies)
A)
Rabies:
the dog must have been vaccinated against rabies with an approved rabies
vaccine (see enclosure), and the vaccination may not have been performed more
than 410 days (i.e. 1 year and 45 days) prior to the entry into Sweden. Please
observe that rabies vaccinations
performed earlier than at the age of three months (90 days) are not valid for
entry into Sweden.
Blood test regarding rabies
antibodies must be made not earlier than 120 days (and not later than 365 days)
after the rabies vaccination. (If the dog has received more than one rabies
vaccination, the blood sample must be taken not earlier than 120 days after the
last performed vaccination). The blood sample must be taken by an authorised
veterinarian, analysed at a laboratory approved by the Swedish Board of
Agriculture, (see enclosed list),
¹ Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany,
Greece, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain,
Switzerland.
N.B. Non-European parts of these
countries not included.
and show a protective antibody titre of at least 0,5
international units per millilitre blood (IU/ml). If the dog does not reach the
specified antibody titre, the rabies vaccination must be repeated and an
additional blood test must be performed 120 days later.
Exception: Blood test regarding
rabies antibodies is not necessary if the dog after the first vaccination
against rabies has been blood tested as stated above and then been
re-vaccinated within a period of one year and 45 days (=410 days) from the date
of the last vaccination. This implies that a dog which has achieved an approved
antibody level does not have to undergo additional blood test if it is subsequently
re-vaccinated yearly against rabies in accordance with the above rules.
NOTE: If more than 410 days (i.e. 1
year and 45 days) have passed between
the rabies vaccinations, the blood test procedure must be performed anew at
least 120 days after the vaccination. The Board of Agriculture will not
grant any exception to this rule.
B) Leptospirosis*
The dog must be vaccinated with
an approved vaccine, and the vaccination must not be older than 410 days (i.e.
1 year and 45 days) when the pet is imported into Sweden.
C) Canine distemper*
The dog must be vaccinated with
an approved vaccine, and the vaccination may not be older than 775 days (i.e.
two years and 45 days) when the pet is imported to Sweden. The dog must be at
least eight weeks old at the time of the first vaccination.
* Upon the first vaccination or upon
delayed re-vaccination, the dog may only be imported into the country not
earlier than 30 days after performed vaccination. If the dog receives two
vaccination injections, the 30 day
period is counted from the first vaccination administered. The 30 day limit for
import does not apply to dogs which have been re-vaccinated against
leptospirosis within a period of one year and 45 days (=410 days) and against
canine distemper within a period of two years and 45 days (=775 days) from the
date of the last vaccination.
5. Compiled
vaccination certificate:
This form is enclosed with the licence and shall be retained by the
licence-holder for at least three months after the date of entry to Sweden. An
authorised veterinarian shall, on the original form from the Swedish Board of
Agriculture and with the dogfs original vaccination certificates and blood test
result as supporting documents, certify that the ID-marked dog has been
vaccinated and approved on the blood test in accordance with the above rules.
The expiration dates for the Compiled Vaccination Certificate and for the
Licence for Registered Importer are not the same. The registration is valid for
a period of one year from the date of issue, whereas the validity of the
Compiled Vaccination Certificate is limited by the time of validity of all
relevant vaccinations.
6. Veterinary health certificate: (Valid for a period of 10 days after the veterinary
examination and deworming.) This form is enclosed with the licence and shall be
retained by the licence-holder for at least three months after the date of
entry to Sweden. An authorised veterinarian in the country of dispatch (not in
Sweden) shall, on the original form from the Swedish Board of Agriculture, certify
that the dog is considered to be healthy and that it has been treated against
tapeworm (Echinococcus granulosus/Echinococcus multilocularis) with an approved
preparation (see enclosure). To prevent the tapeworm from spreading into
Sweden, the dog should be treated against tapeworm one additional time by the
owner/itsf representative after having entered Sweden (e.g. using Droncit®).
Special regulations for import/re-entry from Denmark
and Finland:
A) Re-entry
after at the most 10 days: Upon
shorter trips from Sweden to Denmark or Finland for a period of not more than ten days, a Veterinary
Health Certificate is not necessary. A valid Licence for Registered Importer
and a Compiled Vaccination Certificate must however be carried in the usual
manner. The customs authority shall stamp the day of exit from Sweden on the
licence or on the Compiled Certificate. The dog must then be brought back to
Sweden no more than 10 days later, the day of exit included. A written
Importerfs Declaration, on the back of the Health Certificate, is always
required, i.e. the importer declares that the dog has been only to Denmark or
Finland during the period in question.
B) Stay
in DK and/or FI during at least one year: If the dog has stayed in Denmark, Finland, Norway or
Swe-den only, for a period not less than one year before import, it does not
have to be treated against tapeworm.
C) Commuting:
A Six-week Certificate as an alternative to the Veterinary Health
Certificate may be granted for dogs commuting between Sweden, Denmark or
Finland, and which are residents of any one of these countries. The certificate
shall be issued by an authorised veterinarian in Sweden, Denmark or Finland,
and is valid for a period of six weeks from the date of issue. During the
period of validity the dog must not leave these countries, and the Importerfs
Declaration, on the back of the Health Certificate must state that the pet has
not done so.
REGULATIONS:
The conditions regarding import
of pet dogs and cats are stated in Swedish Regulation (SJVFS 1996:52) on the
importation of pet animals.
