NEW FASION :Project to create White-Headed Society Finch Let us do it! A white-headed society finch will be nice, don't you think? Studio decided to launch the second big project to create a new fashion for society finches through hybrid breeding processes, just because Studio was so impressed by one picture of such a cute little bird. ![]() ¡ÊBlueprint Plan: Touch the picture!¡Ë ¢£
¡¡¡¡¡¡ ¢£TOP¡¡¡¡¡¡ ¢£INSPIRED BY ONE PICTURE ¡¡¡¡¡¡ ¢£A GENE OF WHITE-HEADED MUNIA ¡¡¡¡¡¡ ¢£THE DAY AFTER ¡¡¡¡¡¡ ¢£SLOWLY AND STEADILY ¡ÚINSPIRED BY ONE PICTURE¡Û The story began when one exciting photograph was sent from Kanji Kawabata, the breeding scientist of Society Finch and the author of Invitation to Bengalese Finch (an excellent web site). The picture was about a hybrid bird (introduced in Kanji's web site) bred by Mr. Yokouchi who succeeded to import "Ino" gene into a White-Headed Munia. Its cream color is so cute! A white headed bird is very impressive. It also reminds us of a white-headed eagle soaring in the sky. Anyway, the picture is still about a white-headed nun and not about a society finch. Is there any society finch with the white headed style? If coloring allocation of a nun is transferred to a society finch, it can be done. With a bigger tale, a nice long courtship song of male, and sweet pastel colors, it seems a perfect new fashion finch. ¢£
¡¡¡¡¡¡ ¢£TOP¡¡¡¡¡¡ ¢£INSPIRED BY ONE PICTURE ¡¡¡¡¡¡ ¢£A GENE OF WHITE-HEADED MUNIA ¡¡¡¡¡¡ ¢£THE DAT AFTER ¡¡¡¡¡¡ ¢£SLOWLY AND STEADILY ¡ÚA GENE OF WHITE-HEADED MUNIA¡Û Thrilled with the idea, Kaz, the designer at Studio, draws the breeding plan shown below, and says, "Let us go! Be a challenger!". A female cream-ino society finch will be paired with a male nun. It is going to be an inter-species or inter-cultural marriage between a domestic bird and a wild bird. We will be able to see a hybrid white-headed finch at the generation of great-grandchildren. It will be the shortest cut for the goal. ¡ãBreeding Plan (A)¡ä ![]() ¢£
¡¡¡¡¡¡ ¢£TOP¡¡¡¡¡¡ ¢£INSPIRED BY ONE PICTURE ¡¡¡¡¡¡ ¢£A GENE OF WHITE-HEADED MUNIA ¡¡¡¡¡¡ ¢£THE DAY AFTER ¡¡¡¡¡¡ ¢£SLOWLY AND STEADILY ¡ÚTHE DAY AFTER¡Û Building a new residence for the cuople is the first thing to be done. Then to move them in. A white-headed nun just imported from the wild looks like a "beast" being married with "beauty", a lady society finch! There happens to start the musical, so it seems! This story will be reported with pictures on this page from time to time. So stay with us. ¡ÊDated: 2003.01.01) Well, it was the start of the project, which eventually faced against a lot of unexpected mishaps. In reality, the "beauty" was much wilder than the "beast"(!) and the shy "beast" never got along with the cream-ino society finch with red eyes which do not exist in wild forests! The marriage between the white-headed nun which we chose and a cream-ino society finch had failed. However, the story continued. Having second thoughts, a black-eye normal society finch was moved into the residence. This time it worked. They fell in love and had a baby finch! Being different from the origial plan, the first generation finches do not have any ino genes. Therefore the process for pastel colored white-headed society finches becomes much longer now (shown below). Studio never gives up. We have good news then --- The baby finch born between the normal society finch and the nun turns out to be male; that means we have a fertile bird ready to step forward ((2) of Breeding Plan (B)). ¡ÊDated: 2003.05.28) ¡ãBreeding Plan (B)¡ä ![]() ¢£
¡¡¡¡¡¡ ¢£TOP¡¡¡¡¡¡ ¢£INSPIRED BY ONE PICTURE ¡¡¡¡¡¡ ¢£A GENE OF WHITE-HEADED MUNIA ¡¡¡¡¡¡ ¢£THE DAY AFTER ¡¡¡¡¡¡ ¢£SLOWLY AND STEADILY ¡ÚSLOWLY AND STEADILY¡Û Um....it is tough to deal with living creatures, of course. The paticular pair does not seem to be fertile, so that the project has been temporarily suspended. The generation after a hybrid crossing is marked as "F1" and only cocks can be fertile. Then the next crossing between a F1 hybrid bird and a pure society finch gives the "BC1" generation. Only a half of the BC1 hens are fertile and breeding for fixed type is yet imcomplete. Since the recessive phenotype does not appear at this BC1 generation, the shortest cut to get a recessive phenotype is to cross between the BC1s. The project stops at this stage of crossing because of the pairing problem. Studio believes, after careful observations and thoughts, there is a "white-head gene" being inherited from White Headed Munia and crossings can be successfully done. Studio also knows there may be a lot of hereditary troubles involved in hybrid crossings. It cannot be fast, but it should be done slowly and steadily to achieve the goal. We will do our best so that we can deliver good news to you! ¡ÊDated: 2005.08.08¡Ë by Folio, as Navigator by Kaz, Finch Studio 2003.01.01 (1st script) 2003.06.16 (revised) 2003.10.26 (revised) 2005.08.08 (revised) 2006.10.22 (English Edition) |
