| 2002/4/19(Fri.) |
I finally finished all the tests for this week. It's so hard. Actually I don't know the results, but I could do it well. I hope taht I can get high score. I have three tests next week. I dpn't have time to sleep well----. I think this semester is harder than last semester although I got used to take tests. By the way, the Chinese plane has crashed on 15th of April, hasn't it? What do you think about the accident? In my opinion, when I heard the news, I thought it turned up after all. When I go abroad, I can always find Chinese restaurants without fail. Even if I find Japanese restaurants, the staffs are Chinese sometimes. However we notice their quality. I really think that trade in quality for quantity in Japan. On the other hand, quantity is more important than quality in China. Do you agree with that? If you agree with that, you may know that the reason to have got the accident, right? |
| 2002/4/13(Sat.) | I"ve got to appologize but I cannot keep a diary every day from today. Because I have a lot of tests from next week and I want to concentrate on those tests. I hope you can understand my feelings. Thanks. |
| 2002/4/12(Fri.) | I could review almost all the subjects for mid-semester tests next week. I knew that how to study to compare with last year. I remembered that I was so tensed and I didn't know how to study at all last year. |
| 2002/4/11(Thu.) | What a lazy teacher we have!! We had a class from 8:30 today and I arrived at school at 8:30. Because normally the teacher doesn't come in time. Some students were also waiting for the teacher. As a result, the teacher has not come until 9 o'clock. Moreover after he opened the classroom, he left the classroom to fix the server and he didn't come back till 9:30. And the class has dismissed 20minutes before the time. We couldn't learn so much things today. You may think that that's better. That's wrong. It means we cannnot get high score of the final exam. |
| 2002/4/10(Wed.) | I was confused today. I mean I took the JAVA class today. JAVA is one of the programming languages. This class is for four hours continuously every week. I'm really excited and I'm confused at the same time. So I cannot sleep soon at night on the day of JAVA. |
| 2002/4/9(Tue.) | I didn’t have any classes today but I stay at home all day. I don’t have time to go out recently except on the way to school and home. I’m too busy same as another students. I have two mid-semester tests next week and one will be in a week after. To pass these exams, we must get more than 50%. It sounds like not so difficult. Maybe. But I want to get high marks, moreover I’ve got to understand what’s the questions are correctly. This is very difficult for International students who use English as a second language. |
| 2002/4/8(Mon.) | When you go overseas as an international student, you must cover the Health Insurance. The overseas students in here normally have Australian Health Insurance cards. Otherwise, you must pay a lot for the Insurance in your own country. As my insurance card was likely to be expired on the end of this February, I went to school and paid on the first week of February to renew the card. However I haven’t got the new insurance card yet. So I went to the school office and asked about it, the staff who handles about Insurance for my school asked me to go to the insurance company directly. Normally we don’t need to go to the insurance office by ourselves because school arranges that for us. Why? That’s your Job, isn’t it? Don’t you think so? I really feel disappointed about correspondence of some staffs in Australia. |
| 2002/4/7(Sun.) | I got tired of eating almost same food. I usually cook such as Japanese food or Italian food by myself that I looked at some recipes. However since I got used to cook, I cook almost same things every time. Just routine food. I sometimes checked from website and decided what to cook then. Therefore I can cook a lot of food … if I have time to cook a lot. I don’t have time to cook new food recently because to study is the most important things. Hence, I always cook almost same food. I can eat outside like Pizza or Pasta……not good for health. Well, what should I do? I have to stand it… |
| 2002/4/6(Sat.) | How many friends do you have now? Five? Ten? Fifty? One Hundred? How important or easy for you to make friends? Are you satisfied with your present friends? I guess not so many people satisfy about it. I think that’s usual. Do you think what I am talking about? In fact, I didn’t notice so much that how important to make friends in Japan. I could live without so many friends. Because I know how to live generally. When I came to Australia, I really felt that how important to make friends. If you have friends, you life will be happier, get very useful information, and your friends help you when you have some problems. Right? I know it’s common sense. However a lot of people don’t notice that in daily life. Try to look around your friends. How many friends do you have now? |
| 2002/4/5(Fri.) | It's cloudy and windy today. We can feel that something's wrong with the climate these days. I felt very cold and like the beginning of the winter. On the other hand, it's very weird in Japan too, isn't it? I knew it was very early that cerry trees bloomed this year in the whole country. What's wrong with the earth? What should and can we do? I know that Japan has taken some actions early for environmental preservation. In Australia? I don't know. Anybody can still throw all kinds of rubbish in a same bag. Well, does this mean Australian don't care enough for environmental preservation? Actually I don't know. I just feel that Australian don't so much. |
| 2002/4/4(Thu.) | The one-week Easter holiday finished at last yesterday. It’s a very good time. I could play golf for several times with friends and watch movies and so on. Although I had to review for school, I was a bit lazy. Well, the autumn came in Melbourne! It’s chilly to go out especially by bike in the morning. It’s also windy today. I got a lot of homework straightaway today. Well, too much!! It’s a severe workload…I just do my best, don’t I? I do!! By the way, I have a question. Is it usual to work with very loud noise from seven o’clock to renovate a house? It never happens in Japan, doesn’t it? It happens here. Well, if I can think very well way, they may wake me up early morning and very healthy. Well, unfortunately I cannot think like that. Just noisy. You know, they don’t use woods normally, but concrete in Australia. So it’s much noisier than Japanese one. Once I asked their head staff to stop making noise in the early morning, but they didn’t accept it. However it seemed they cared a bit after I asked him about it. It’s getting better. |
| 2002/3/28(Thu.) | We started Easter Break from today. I'm going to stop writing this diary until 2002/4/3(Wed.). Thanks. |
| 2002/3/27(Wed.) | Finally finished first half of the semester 1. I have Easter Break from tomorrow for a week although I don’t have enough time to hang out so much. Because I’ve got to find a job for internship program as soon as possible. You know don’t you think that it’s natural thing that school has some connections between school and companies? No. They don’t have any connections like that. So we, students, have to find by ourselves. Moreover it’s quite hard to find for International students. We don’t have so much connection. Well, the only way to do is just do my best, isn’t it? I do. |
| 2002/3/26(Tue.) | Have you ever experienced that the light bulb has gone of you room? Of course you may have. Then have you ever experienced that nevertheless the light bulb works correctly, you cannot turn on the light except because of breakers? It happens in Australia. I mean something is wrong with the connection cable. Well, never happened like this in my life. But it happened in Australia. It means the structure of construction is not good at first. On the other hand, it’s very good for repairpersons. Well, I really feel that is trapped in a vicious circle of creation and repair. |
| 2002/3/25(Mon.) | “create about 12-15 slides for Presentation Draft.” This is an instruction for presentation draft for a class. When I completed my presentation draft, I created 11 slides and handed in. But it seemed to make mistake. That means I’ve got to create my presentation draft between 12 and 15 slides. So what is “about”? I talked with my teacher and complained about it. The instruction is not good!! Don’t you think so? |
| 2002/3/24(Sun.) | Oh my GOD!! How many assignments do I have at this stage? Three? No, FOUR!! I can’t believe it. Never happened like this ever. Moreover these assignments are not easy. I’ve got to submit three assignments tomorrow and the rest of that on Wednesday. Well, how can I do that so quickly? I usually study after school to catch up with the classes. But it seems it’s still lack. Anyway the only way to get over is to study hard. That’s it. OK. I want to write the result tomorrow. |
| 2002/3/23(Sat.) | Finally it's Satuday today. I'm really happy. I was so busy this week and I really wanted to be absent from school although I wasn't. When I was a University student in Japan, I was not be serious about classes so much. However I go to school and attend every classes in Australia. It means if you are absent from school in this country, it's very hard to catch up the classes. Worse, it sometimes leads to fail some subjects. By the way, what do I do during this weekend? Of course, I have a lot of assignments to do for next week!!! Oh, I want to take some rest. |
| 2002/3/22(Fri.) | I felt a bit weird about the class today. I had a class from 8:30 to 9:30 am. That’s about to find jobs. Usually I have day off on Friday. But I have this class once every two months. The reason why I felt so weird today’s class is students must wear business suit. You know, actually we, students, didn’t wear business suit at all for Career Expo 2002 yesterday. But to take classes, we had to wear business suit. What do you think? It’s very weird, isn’t it? Well, there are a lot of things that Japanese cannot understand about the different culture, education and society and so on. |
| 2002/3/21(Thu.) | I went to the Career Expo 2002 at a stadium to make connection with employers today. In Japan, it’s almost impossible to make connection in Career Expo. But it’s very important to make it in this country. It means if you don’t have connections, it’s almost impossible to find a job in this country. Of course it is very big disadvantages for international students. Because at first to make a lot of friends is must. I noticed some differences between career expo in Australia and in Japan. At first, Japanese usually wear business suit to go to Career Expo in Japan. But a few people wear business suit in this country. And you cannot believe that if you come to Australian Career Expo. Because you can get a lot of snacks even if the company doesn’t relate snack company. It includes flying disk (Frisbee), chewing gum, etc. To be surprised, apples too!! Well, I really felt weird, but the contents were good!! |
| 2002/3/20(Wed.) | I learn about FTP (File Transfer Protocol). What a useful stuff this is!! Until yesterday, I saved the school stuff in my floppy disk or send my e-mail account. But from now on, I don’t need to use this method any more. Just I connect from home. That’s it!! How easy it is!! To get knowledge is very important, isn’t it? I reconfirmed the facilities anew. |
| 2002/3/19(Tue.) | I walked to return rental videos today. Actually the closest rental video shop is not far from my place. But I just noticed that if I am in Japan and I go to the same distance place, I must feel very far from home and I don’t walk. Actually it is around 1km away from my place. I noticed that Japanese don’t like to walk including me to compare with Australian. Even if you go to a convenience store, you may use a car in Japan. In Australia a lot of people walk for a long time and don’t mind at all. Because they don’t have cars, maybe. But basically Japanese don’t get used to walk so much. It means legs are not so strong. So when you get on the train, you try to find a seat soon. Worse, argument happens to make place to sit. Although it’s very convenient society to live in Japan, we lose something at the same time I think. |
| 2002/3/18(Mon.) | I have a lot of classes on Monday. The first class starts at 10:30 and the final class finishes at 21:30. I've got to take classes for 8 hours without break time. Of course after classes I'm exhausted. However I cannot stop studying after that soon. You have heard at least once that there are a lot of homework in the western countries, hanven't you? It is true. Japanese universities don't have so much homework to do on average. On the other hand, Australian universities do so much. So if you don't study after school, you must fail exams. But overall, I like this university systems in the western countries better than Japanese one. I don't like Japanese university educational system such as if you enter an university once, you don't need to study hard in the university except a part of universities. |
| 2002/3/17(Sun.) | The Autumn is around the corner in Melbourne. It's an excellent day today, not cold and not hot. When I look back this summer, it's so strange. It's not hot at all. Nevertheless it's January, it's almost cold and seldom hot. It's also weird in Japan. There were a lot of snow in this winter. I really doubted to counter the problem of global warming so seriously. Actually I found an interesting article about it. I'll show it in the culture difference page next time. | 2002/3/16(Sat.) | To compare with Japan, lights at home are dark on average. So it’s easy to make eyes tired. I cannot believe that Australian get used to stand this darkness. I am considered that the reason why Australian has good eyesight is related to a lifestyle. They sleep so early around ten in the evening and they get up around seven in the morning. By the way, some of my Australian friends who are students sleep for over eleven hours every day. It’s too long!! (P.S.) To tell the truth, one of the main reasons why they have good eyesight is basically their physical constitution. |
| 2002/3/15(Fri.) | Finally I could create this page!! I feel so happy now. I knew that it's quite hard to create very good homepages through this process. Actually although I am a student in Melbourne and very busy, I try to add up a lot of pages as much as I can. I really hope that you enjoy this homepage. Oh, I've got to do my homework for next Monday. See you tomorrow!! |
