この項ではイギリスのエフェクト･エンジニア、ピート･コーニッシュ氏がブライアンの為に作ったトレブル･ブースターについて述べていきたい。
ブライアンはそれまで愛用していたトレブル･ブースターに関して、サウンド的には満足していたが、少々ノイズが多過ぎることに不満であったようだ。
1975年、ブライアンはコーニッシュ氏に、トレブル･ブースターのノイズを取り除くモディファイを依頼した。コーニッシュ氏によると、氏がブライアンの為にオリジナルのトレブル･ブースターを製作したのは1975年の11月のことで、ジョン･ディーコンがレンジマスターを基にして作ったオリジナルのノイズを取り除き、より安心して使えるものに改良したという。
コントロールは何もなし、フット・スイッチもレヴェル・コントロールも何もなしである。コーニッシュ氏はこのペダルを“Fireplace”（画像）と呼んでいる。
コーニッシュ氏は現在でもトレブル･ブースターを製作している。筆者は1999年1月にコーニッシュ氏にこのトレブル・ブースター（画像）の製作を依頼し、手に入れた。ここでそのマニュアルを原文の英語のままでご紹介しよう。
THE PETE CORNISH "TREBLE BOOST"Originally designed to implove the tone and overdrive characteristics of the "Normal Channel" in Vox AC30 and early 50W and 100W Marshall Heads (pre master volume models) this booster adds "Bite" and some "Dirt" to these low gain type of amps．
This unit is fitted with a volume control to allow level matching for use with other FX units but does not have a bypass switch as the Treble Boost is required to be in circuit at all times．
There are two distinct ways that the Treble Boost can be used:1) As a Power/Tone Boost:The peak frequency of the Boost is as follows:
Connect the Booster output directly to the amp input and adjust the volume control to your desired amount of Boost．
Any effects may be connected between the guitar and the Treble Boost input．2) As a Tone enhancer:
Connect the guitar directly to the Booster input; set the Boost volume to match exactly the amp volume that existed before the Booster was added．
Any effects should now be connected between the Booster output and the amp input．
The enhanced tone will be used to drive the effects and will not cause distortion or overloading if the Booster volume is carefully adjusted．
Treble: 3.0KHzThe battery is replaceable via the removable "drawer" and we recommend type MN1604.
Maximum Boost: +35dB
The battery is switched on when you insert the "Input/Pwr On" jack and to ensure long battery life unplug this lead when the unit is not in use．
The unit has no user serviceable parts inside and the guarantee will be voided if the labels are damaged or removed．
If any fault develops the unit should be returnd post paid to the above address where we will repair it under guarantee (normal wear, misuse or accidental damage excepted)．
読んでいただければ分かるように、このマニュアルに書かれた仕様と、ブライアン本人が使用している物との間には異なる点がある。乾電池を交換する際、このタイプはわざわざ裏面のカヴァーを外さなくても交換出来るように電池の出し入れ口が設けられている。
そして肝心の回路自体であるがこれも前述の“Fireplace”とは若干異なる。コーニッシュ氏によればこのモデルは1982年にブライアンに製作したペダルボード（画像）内臓のトレブルブースターと同じ仕様で、ラインドライヴァーを内臓しているとのことである。
裏面のカヴァーは特殊な形のねじでとめられ、側面二ヶ所にはシールが貼りつけられている。これは回路のコピーや改造･分解を防ぐ為のもので、このシールが取り除かれたり、破損した場合は保証が取り消される。
このトレブル･ブースターは完全な手作りで、注文を受けてから製作が開始され、回路のエッチング、はんだ付け、組み込みなど全てコーニッシュ氏と夫人の手によってなされる。製作には五日間かかり、ペダルには顧客の氏名、製作年と月、そしてシリアル･ナンバーを記したラベルが貼られている。
実際に筆者がこのトレブル･ブースターを使ってみた際の感想は、素晴らしいの一言であった。ノイズは皆無で、VOX AC-30のノーマル･チャンネルに心地よい歪みを与えてくれた。トーンもアンプ自体のトーンを損なうことなく、エフェクト･ペダルというよりもアンプに一部になったかのように感じた。残念ながら筆者は現在はこのモデルを諸事情によって手放しているけれども、品質の高さと音質の良さには全く問題はなかった。そしてブライアン・メイが使用していた“Fireplace”であるが、コーニッシュ氏はこれと同じ仕様のモデルをTB-83（画像）という名前で発売する予定で、私が手に入れたタイプはTB-Plusとして発売するとのことである。また両タイプともにバイパス・スイッチを加えたモデル、TB-83 ExtraとTB-Plus Extraを発売する予定とのことです。現在入手可能なピート・コーニッシュ製品の情報は株式会社パシフィクスのホームページでご覧になれます。
