In this summer vacation, I went to China to study Chinese. I went to Dalian that is located in northeast of China. This was the second times to go to China. I went to Beijing (Peking) last year, but I have never been to Dalian.
Dalian has very large population which is about five million. There are many buses, taxis, and streetcars. About half of cars on the street are taxi! Cars are too expensive and there are no parking space, so many people don't buy cars and ride in taxi or bus.
Dalian is very beautiful city. There are many good-looking and historic buildings. There are also many beautiful parks and new high-rise buildings. People call Dalian "the city of acacia. If you go to Dalian in spring season, acacias will be in bloom and you will be able to see "acacia festival". In the suburbs of Dalian, there are many good sightseeing places. For example, there are beautiful coasts, and historic places of the Russo-Japanese War in early 20th century.

2 Dalian University of Foreign Language

I studied at Dalian University of Foreign Language (Dalian Waiguoyu Xueyuan). People call this University "Dawai". Dawai has six schools, which are School of Chinese studies, School of English studies, Japanese, Korean, French, German, and Russian. I studied at School of Chinese studies. I belonged to lower class. Six Japanese students and I studied together.

On my surprise, seven Chinese students who are studying Japanese helped us studying. They were so kind, cheerful, and earnest. The student who helped me was Wang Na. She has studied Japanese for two years and her Japanese is very good! (My Chinese is poor.) Thanks to her, my studying was very fruitful. Wang Na and I became good friends each other, and this friendship will continue forever!

3 The life in Dalian

I have three classes on weekday. After school and weekends, I went to various places. I often went to bookstores, CD shops, and department stores. There is a big bookstore named "Xinhua shudian" in central city. Many kinds of books are in the bookstore. But my Chinese is not very good so I can't read those books well. So I bought books written for children. I like Chinese music (especially Hong Kong's music). I like Faye Wong (Wang Fei) and Kelly Chen. They are known to Japanese people as actresses and singers. Of course I bought their CDs. It is difficult to buy those CDs in Japan. I was very happy to buy their CDs.

Many of goods are cheap in Dalian, and many foods are also cheap. My friends and I went to many restaurants. And we ate at street stalles. On our surprise, one day it cost only 15cents. I ate soup and streamed stuffed bun at the street stall. Chinese foods are mostly delicious. In Japan, we often eat Chinese foods. But foods which we ate in China were more delicious than we eat in Japan.
