Now let me talk about myself.
I became interested in teaching Japanese when I started teaching Japanese
to English natives as a volunteer.
It was really tough for me to do it although I am Japanese. Because I don't
think I "studyied" Japanese. So I don't know what to teach.
The way of learning second languages is the same. I remember the days when
I studied English. I started studying it when I entered a junior high school.
I liked it. Because I thought it was really new to me and I liked the teacher
at school.
If I hadn't met him, I wouldn't became interested in English very much.
And if he had been a Math teacher, I might be a Math teacher. (^^)
What I want to say is that it depends on how much a teacher can make students
interested.
After university, I started working for a trading company in Nagoya. My
job was so busy, but I liked it.
While I was working, I started thinking of studying English again. On my
job I didn't have to speak English, but I thought English would become
more important in the near future even in this small island country.
Quiting my job was a big decision for me, coz I knew how difficult it is to get a better job since Japan had been facing a job shortage.
NO PAIN NO GAIN !! I believe that.
I quit my job and prepared for going abroad.
I didn't want to do things anyone could do. I mean I wanted something special.
So I decided to learn how to teach English at school in Canada. There are
a lot of Japanese who speak English but not many who can teach English.
It was a tough program called TESL(Teaching English as a Second Language)
with a lot of tests and weekly presentation to get the diploma. And I taught
Japanese to Canadians when I had time.
My life there was so busy. I didn't even have time to travel around Canada.
But it made me succeed in getting what I wanted.
About 1 month before I came back to Japan, I contacted some English conversation schools in Japan to apply for a job. About 900points on the TOEIC test is required.
I made it !!!
I've been teaching English at a private English conversation school for
3years now.
Now I like teaching more than before.
