This page explains why we returned for the RN to BSN program at CSUN. All entries were written by
senior students of 2001 in the RN to BSN program at CSUN.
I returned for my BSN mainly for personal satisfaction but also because of the changing environment in
health care today. I felt by getting my BSN it would open more doors to my professional career. The RN to BSN program at CSUN is an excellent program with high standards and offers many challenges. After exploring many other programs I can
honestly say I made a good choice. Cathy C, RN
There are many programs available to the RN who wishes to achieve her BSN. CSUN's program being one of
them. I am convinced that CSUN's program is not the easiest of routes, having spoken to graduates of other RN to BSN programs, but the high standards required of the students and support of professors produce a well prepared graduate who
is confident to embark on further education or to embrace new work opportunities. Terri H, RN
I chose to return to school for a BSN because I knew there would be more options for me in the
profession of nursing. I also wanted to go on and obtain a Master's Degree in Nursing and be an advanced practice nurse. According to alumni, the RN to BSN program provided them with a strong academic foundation and high standards that
enabled them to further their education as advanced practice nurses. As a result of this program, I will begin UCLA's Master's of Science in Nursing/Family Nurse Practitioner Program in Fall 2001. I highly recommend CSUN's RN to BSN
program. Jo Ellen K,RN
First, I returned to college at CSUN to fulfill a personal goal. (I spent one year at CSUN following
graduation from high school many years ago and did not complete my degree). Secondly, I knew when I started my education in the field of nursing that I ultimately wanted a BSN. In today's challenging healthcare environment, I feel a BSN is
a must. CSUN's RN to BSN program provides a very high quality education through their Doctorate prepared professors and high standards. Becky R, RN
I agree with Becky that within the fast-paced technologically advancing medical field today a BSN is a
degree that is almost essential. This is a personal goal for me but it also ensures a more secure future allowing access to more job opportunities within the medical profession. Acquiring this degree has also opened up the world a bit for
me, working on an international medical project as well as learning about various nursing careers in schools, clinics, and the legal arena has been quite informative. I believe it has also instilled a bit more of a professional
"edge" or "poise" for me in a positive sense. Other knowledge that has been very valuable for me in this BSN program is that of resource and information access. This BSN program has given me the "tools" to
continue with the ongoing building of my career. Paula T,RN
I went back to CSUN BSN program because I wanted to gain more knowledge in Nursing, to be more
marketable for job, & to go to a Master's degree program in Nursing after I finished the program. My dream came true. The program, Dr.Faherty, Dr.Highfield, & Dr. McFadden, helped me get in a Master's degree program at UCLA in fall
2001. The program taught me how to write a paper & use a computer & powerpoint. Those are my asset now. When I started the program three years ago, I did not know anything about the computer. Now,I am a semi-expert.

I actually never left school - right after my ADN I started taking transfer classes for BSN. I always
wanted to go to medical school but I discovered the great opportunities in nursing in the US and the different levels of education and practice. This is how I decided to pursue my Masters degree and apply to Anesthesia school after BSN. I
canft thank enough my teachers in CSUN RN-to-BSN program for being so supportive, with genuine interest in the students, great professional and academic knowledge. Dr. McFadden, Dr. Highfield, and Dr. Faherty should be very proud of
themselves, they set very high standards for the teachers following them!!!! Great RN
I decided to pursue a BSN at CSUN because of the accessibility of the satellite campus to my home. The
benefits of having a BSN are numerous. Increased job opportunities, more global knowlege base, and the ability to go on for an advanced degree are but a few of the benefits of pursing a BSN at CSUN. The nursing program at CSUN
is outstanding and this is in large part due to the caliber of it's nursing professors and high standards demanded of it's students. Danielle B, RN
I choose the return to school to recieve my BSN because I would like to become a nursing educator. The
faculty at CSUN all have very diverse experiences to share with their students. The benefits of the CSUN BSN program is a small class size in which you have the opportunity to form lifelong friendships with your classmates and teachers as
I have done. Debra B, RN
I decided to come to this BSN program to study nursing, but now just before my graduation from this
program, I realize that my English is much better than English when I started this program. This program gives me a lot of chances to read materials, write papers and give presentations. By working on these assignments, I was able to brush
up my English. As a result, on the second year of the BSN program, I was able to get a job as a RN at a hospital. Now, I was accepted to a master program. All instructors in BSN program at CSUN are very supportive and professional. Thank
you very much. Ellie I, RN
I decided to go back to school to obtain my bachelors degree in nursing, to build a foundation for my
future career. My long term goal is to get a MSN/MBA. I would consider myself a nurse entrepreneur. I recently bought a franchise that offers home care services for the elderly in the home setting. My goal to eventually become a
gerontologist, can not be possible without my CSUN backgroud. It is not an easy hurdle, but I pride myself for the hard work. Elegance H, RN
Its funny because when I started this program I really did not know exactly what I would do with it,
only that I wanted to be able to eventually grow within my profession and eventually have the choice to practice outside of the typical hospital environment someday. The BSN program at CSUN has not only proven to be one of very high
standards in a traditional, university environment (as opposed to correspondence type programs that exist), but it has expanded my understanding of, and respect for our profession. Because of this program, I have been enlightened on the
value of higher education and the true need for the standardization of the BSN as the entry level education for nursing (in order to bring us together and strenthen the public's view of us AS a profession). Lastly, it has allowed me to go
on to get a master's degree in nurse anesthesia. In looking at the application process to graduate school, a program such as CSUN's with its high academic standards, accredidation and traditional university environment, gives one a serious
advantage in the eyes of admission committees compared to those who come from correspondence schools such as University of Phoenix or Regents. (Sorry, I know this is way more than 2 sentences). Amy, RN
