RABIES (IMPORTATION OF DOGS, CATS AND OTHER MAMMALS)
ORDER 1974
REQUIREMENTS FOR IMPORTATION OF DOMESTIC DOGS AND CATS INTO GREAT
BRITAIN
Under the above Order, cats and dogs for customs clearance at
airports in Scotland are permitted to transit Heathrow. Edinburgh
and Glasgow airports are both authorised to accept animals
subject to the above Order, providing a licence has been issued
by the Scottish Executive stating the place of landing as
Edinburgh or Glasgow. Prior to shipment a Boarding Document must
be presented to the airline along with a Red Rabies label which
has been completed and attached to the crate containing the
animal.
During transit the animals must at all times be confined in a
suitable container or crate which meets IATA standards, and
animals must travel as manifested cargo, in the freight
compartment of the aircraft.
On landing, the airline is only permitted to hand over
responsibility for the animal to the authorised carrying agent to
deliver it to quarantine.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you require any further
information.
Yours faithfully
