WELCOME to auditions for William Shakespeare.s A Midsummer NiQ:ht.s
Dream.
a classic comedy-fantasy tale to be staged in this theater on December 3, 4. 5. 11, 12, and 13. The play consists of 17 characters of varying types. as well as up to 13 "fairies" and possibly a couple of attendants to Theseus and Hippolyta.
Here are some things to know before the audition begins:
.MANDA TORY cast read-through will be on Wednesdav. Octoher 1. from 3:30- 7:00 in the theater. If cast, put it on your calendar. as it is MANDATORY.
.Due to the annual Haunted House taking place in the theater on October 23, 24, and 25, rehearsals will not begin in earnest until October 29th; HOWEVER. I will be running some informal text/character work sessions throughout the month of October. so you MUST have your lunches available as often as 2-3 days per week.
You also must be willing to "do your homework" for the play throughout October. as well as to keep up with all of your other demands.
.Rehearsals will begin on Wednesdav. Octoher 2<)th. and will run Monday- Friday from 6-9. There will also be some Saturday (and eventually Sunday) rehearsals with the times being dictated by cast conflicts.
.As soon as the cast list is posted, see me about picking up a script, and you will be expected to study it and begin creating your characters, so that by the first rehearsal we can jump right in and you know what you're doing. I will be
available (by appointment, please) to meet with you anytime to chat about your character development strategies. This script absolutely reQuires thorough character analysis.
.The theater will be dark on Friday. October 31, as well as MOST of
Thanksgiving Break, November 26-30. BUT please leave Wednesday the 26th open during the day for any "emergency work. "
.Performance dates: December 3, 4, 5. 11. 12, 13. (Strike will follow the final performance--a late night.)
.Failure to show up to a rehearsal or being consistently late WILL result in you being replaced. For example, if rehearsal begins at 6:00. and you arrive at 6:ql. vou are late.
.Most imDortant of all. you MUST maintain a 2.0 and no F's througho.ut this process. so I will be keeping tabs on your school work and attendance by staying in touch with your teachers. w. I w a audi ion T .ave

I can work around a ~ conflicts if I know far ahead of time (like by mid- October). but random. late. non-emergency conflicts just won.t be allowed. Conflicts are to be given directly to the stage manager (T .B.A.).
IF there are call-backs, they will take place on Thursday, September 25, either during lunch or beginning at 3:30 P.M. You will be notified by phone on Wednesday night if you are called back.
.The cast/ crew list will be posted on the front of the theater sometime Friday. If it's not un vet. it's not readv vet. so don't bother askin~. Dlease. If you are NOT cast, which, due to sheer numbers, many of you will not be, it's ok to be disappointed, BUT come see ~ with concerns or questions. I'll be very up-front and honest with you. Whatever happens, handle it with maturitv.
The following scenes, pages and line numbers will be those used for auditions for A Midsummer
Night's Dream. Please be sure to remember that some of the lines have been cut for our wrsion of Midsummer, so DON'T memorize the lines wrbatim (word-for-word).
Remember that I am NOT overly concerned with your use of ~ word .I'm looking more at what you bring to the character and into the audition. Please understand the story thoroughly, as well as the character relationships, and MAKE BOLD CHOICESII Good luckl
