Some companies eagerly support art; for example, Suntory Ltd. has a cultural hall and invites famous orchestras from around the world to perform for the citizens. On the other hand, some companies try to protect the environment as much as possible; as an example, automakers have recently done their best to develop environment-friendly models. To support cultural activities or arts, and to protect environment are both important for societies. However, I think, as long as companies concerned, they should spend larger amount of money on environmental protection than to support cultural matters.

Firstly, I will discuss the reasons why we should support cultural activities as much as we protect the environment. It is true that music and art are merely avocation of life. However, if there were no concert halls, nor art museums, we couldn't appreciate music nor art. As a result, we wouldn't learn to play music instruments, or try to paint during our leisure time. Ultimately the cultural standard of a society would be lower. Therefore, supporting cultural activities are necessary as means to educate citizens. On the other hand, it is needless to say that protect environment, as protection is necessary in today's world where "global warming", "dioxin", and "ozone layer depletion" are much talked about.

Secondly, I will discuss the reasons why companies should spend larger amount of money on protecting environment than on supporting cultural activities. For example, only automakers can develop environment-friendly cars, and only construction companies can develop noise proof buildings. In other words, companies have their own specialties, so they should use their technique to protect environment. On the other hand, cultural activities like art and music should be left to national museums or educational facilities.

In conclusion, to protect environment and to support cultural activities are both important. However, as long as companies are concerned, I think they should devote themselves to protect the environment by using their special technologies. With regard to cultural activities, national museums and educational facilities should be responsible for them.
