Structure: (1) Introduction (2) Progress shouldn't be stopped (3) Information and warning for progress are important (4) Conclusion Example: Science has been so developed that cloned sheep and calves were produced. This technology makes the stabile supply of good quality meat possible, while it triggered a new concern about the possibility of producing human clone. Some scientists are warning that human clones may destroy the present human society, and technology has progressed beyond the necessity. Unless progress is deliberately stopped, such kind of new dangerous technology will be coming out one after another. However, in my opinion, progress shouldn't be stopped. It had better be continuously developed with enough discussion. The reasons why I think the progress shouldn't be stopped are as follows. First, desire of progress is the strongest motivation for people to work, and without the desire of progress people can hardly feel satisfaction. When I think this individual desire result in the social progress, I can't object progress. Second, if progress is stopped, the society may lead people to be poor, ignorant, and lazy. Such natures are so dangerous as may bring about dictatorship and increase of crime. In other words, progress helps people live in democratic societies, and keeps the living standard. Although I support progress continuing, I don't say progress is always good. I consider that enough discussion on progress by specialists, the government, organizations, non-governmental organizations and ordinary citizens helps progress go to right ways. Lots of information and warnings are necessary for progress. For example, gene manipulation has been developed to give defective gene away, however, specialists are warning and say that it may bring about 'designer children', meaning that parents can design their children like choosing the shape of their eyes, nose, legs. Moreover, the specialists say that the technology is only for rich people, and it may build a high wall between the rich and the poor. Therefore, enough discussion is required for progress. In conclusion, I believe progress shouldn't be stopped although I know it has some bad effects. It is because it is the progress that gives people dream and desire. In addition, without progress, societies may go to wrong ways like poverty and dictatorship. While I support progress continuing, I hope a lot of discussion about it should be carried out. Then, all the member of the society should supervise progress so that it does not go to wrong directions. |
