Wall Street
Journal Ranks Michigan #2 Worldwide
UMBS Rankings in 2002
MBA Program Survey:
- No. 1 in listing of
"Top 10 Large Schools" (full-time MBA
enrollment of 500 or more)
- No. 1 in listing of
"Top 10 Public Schools"
- No. 2 in listing of
"Top Ranked 50"
The University of
Michigan Business School's MBA program was ranked
first among the "Top 10 Large Schools" and
the "Top 10 Public Schools" in a new Wall
Street Journal/Harris Interactive Business School
Survey of 2,221 MBA recruiters. Surpassing
their 4th place ranking from 2001, the University of
Michigan Business School ranked 2nd overall among
the top 50 business schools.
A total of 50
business schools were rated and ranked in the
survey, which was the result of more than a year of
consultation with business-school representatives,
corporate recruiters, students, search firms,
independent consultants and members of relevant
associations. Recruiters rated the schools and their
students on the basis of 26 attributes.
The goal of the
survey was to identify school and student
characteristics that recruiters consider most
important when they make decisions about which
schools to recruit from and which students to
recruit.
According to the
Journal's report, recruiters in the survey rated
Michigan's graduates strongest on teamwork
orientation, analytical and problem-solving skills,
strategic thinking and general management point of
view.
Complete survey
results can be found in "The Wall Street
Journal Guide to the Top Business Schools
2003."

Outback Bowl at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa,
Florida. Chris Perry set a U-M modern era bowl

13th Annual
Asian Business Conference is Scheduled for February
7 - 8, 2003
The Asian Business
Conference is one of the largest student-organized
events at the University of Michigan Business
School. Each year, it brings together
government officials, business leaders, and leading
academics to discuss the challenges and
opportunities of doing business in Asia.
ABC has many notable
guest speakers this year, representing a diverse
group of government leaders, business executives,
and leading academics who will share their
experiences in Asia. Roberto De Ocampo, former
Minister of Finance for the Philippines will deliver
the keynote address on Friday. Mr. De Ocampo
is the current president of the Asian Institute of
Management. From 1992-1998, he served as
Secretary of Finance under President Fidel V. Ramos
and was widely recognized as the principal architect
of the resurgence of the Philippine economy.
David Hind, Vice President of Business Development
for Qualcomm China, will end the conference on
Saturday with the closing keynote speech. Mr. Hind
develops strategic and operational plans to help
accelerate China's adoption of Code Division
Multiple Access (CDMA) digital wireless technology
for the deployment of next-generation wireless
networks and services. He oversees the necessary
communications and coordination efforts between
China government bodies and local manufacturers, to
help obtain the proper licensing and IPR approvals
for Qualcomm.
The ABC panel
speakers this year come from a wide range of
backgrounds in terms of industries, size of
companies, and nationalities, which will certainly
provide us with a comprehensive view on the Asian
economy as a whole. For the panel discussions, the
functional panels will focus on Corporate and Social
Responsibility, Finance, and Technology, and the
regional panels will address China, Japan, Indian
Subcontinent, Korea, and ASEAN.
