Edinburgh
I traveled to Scotland one weekend. I took a train from Cambridge to Edinburgh. It took over 5 hours, but I was not bored during the journey, because I met friends on the train by coincidence, though we intended to meet in Edinburgh. We arrived at the hotel, which was very nice considering the price, at 10 ofclock, and we were all so tired that we went to bed immediately.

Next morning, at first we went toward Edinburgh Castle, which is the most famous spot in the city, after having big breakfast, which was typical English style. On the way there, I found the cathedral, named st. Giles cathedral, and went into that. It was absolutely beautiful. I had never visited such a beautiful cathedral. Although I usually do not find subtle differences in most of the cathedrals, it became special for me. I especially liked its stained glass window, which made a distinctive atmosphere.

After ten minutes walk I arrived at Edinburgh castle, which was situated on a hill. It was quite big and, has a magnificent appearance. There were so many tourists that it was really crowded. While I was walking around the castle, it started raining. The weather made the castle seem to be more solid. There were a lot of exhibitions, which explain the history of Scotland in the castle. I also find a monument, which was for dead people in the war including the war in Iraq. I thought that the castle is still a kind of holy place for people in Scotland.

Secondly we went to the Scotch whisky museum. It was really interesting, though the admission was not cheap. As soon as we went into the entrance, we were given glass of a whisky, and explained that how to drink a whisky properly. Firstly we look at the color of the whisky over the glass, then we smelled it, and we were able to drink at last. I thought it was similar to the way of the drinking of a wine. It tasted good, though I got a bit drunk. After that I saw the exhibitions, which explain the history of Scotch whisky and the process of manufacture. I was able to discover their efforts to keep their brand image of Scotch whisky. It was good study for me.
Afterwards as some of us insist on going shopping, we separated, and I went for a walk. I visited the Scott Monument, which has peculiar design as you can see in the picture. As the signboard, it was made for Walter Scott, who was famous Scottish writer.

Then I went up the hill, which was situated just beside the station. We were able to see the most of the city from there. There are a lot of beautiful buildings on the hill. These must have been a famous tourist attraction, because I found some coaches parked there, though I went there spontaneously. However it started raining again, and this time it was quite heavy. Unfortunately we did not have an umbrella so we took shelter from the rain in the nearest building. But before long, a woman, who were probably a member of stuff of the building told us that she had to close the gate so that we had to go out. So we decided to get out reluctantly. But when we were about to go out, she came to us again, and kindly gave us an umbrella. We thanked her, and went out. After 5 minutes, it stopped raining, and a rainbow hung in the sky. The view from the hill was absolutely beautiful, and impressive. I had never seen such a clear rainbow before then. It was just like in the paintingfs world. I am very sorry that my picture can not show you how beautiful it was.
Edinburgh was the most beautiful city I have ever visited. I would like to recommend it to anyone who is planning to come to the UK. Some day I would like to go there again.
