Function

  • Essential for metabolism of carbohydrate, amino acids and lipids
  • Important for body growth and red cell production
  • Support antioxidant protection
  • FMN and FAD (active form) catalyze the initial oxidations of fatty acids and of several intermediates in glucose metabolism
  • FMN is required for the conversion of pyridoxine (Vitamin B6) to its functional form pyridoxal phosphate
  • FAD is required for biosynthesis of the vitamin niacin from the amino acid tryptophan
