★Since when have there been dagashi?★ There have been since Edo era.(about 300 years ago.)
Originally dagashi have a meaning of humble snacks.
Comparing excellent snacks eaten by the person of high position,
humble snacks that was contained white sugar by the people was dagashi.
The candy store for the common people and children called the shop
that sells dagashi then.
And people increase production of sugar in the last days of the
Tokugawa shogunate, it callsd dagashi when Edo era that rised suddenly
in the world luxury snacks. And there ware cases to the contrary,too.
There are hawkers who sold snacks in the shop that sells dagashi
about 100years ago.
By and by all kinds of snacks was sold at the street stall in temple festival,
Children gathered there. After war, dagashi that is western was popular,
The popsicle,lemonade, and the like was very popular in summertime.
There have been the lottery, giveaway, and the like since Taisyo era
(about 70 years ago),they still be there.
Thus, dagashi is said to have evolved.
