| Rice ball - wonderful Japanese food |
Rice balls are long-lived food in Japan. In the Heian era, when the noble had a dinner at the mansion, he gave rice balls for the people who worked there. It is said to be the origin of rice balls.
I guess that rice ball reveals Japanese character from two following points. : First, we can put materials - pickled plum, dried bonito, tuna etc. - into rice balls freely. Selecting materials on our own, we can make more healthy food. The word "healthy" reveals Japanese food's characteristic. Second, I find many kinds of rice balls at the convenience store. And they are often out of stock quicker than bread. I guess it reveals that Japanese prefer rice to bread.
Also, rice balls are held in man's hands, so rice ball is food with his affection! Do you understand how wonderful the Japanese food "rice ball" is?
