KARIBU ! (It is Kiswahili "Welcome" !)

Jambo, Jambo bwana. Habari gani ? Mzuri sana.
Wageni wakaribiswa, Kenya yetu, Hakuna matata...

(=Hello, Hello Mr. How are you ? I am fine.
Visitors are welcomed, our Kenya, no problem...)

Have you ever been to Africa ? How about Kenya ?
As this song of Kenya in Kiswahili, it is good place !

(attn, Kiswahiri is one of the national language in Kenya)

My first foreign country to stay was Kenya. It is quite far from Japan. So Japanese people
called Africa "Black Continent". When I told, " I want to go to Africa." People asked me why.
Most of the people don't understand why I want to go there. Off course, I was worried
before I go there, because I have never traveled foreign countries. But I was admiring to
Africa since I was small. Maybe somebody in Kenya called me, it is destiny, and I believe...

In 1989, I went there, it took more than a day, from Tokyo to Anchorage was 8 hours,
Anchorage to London was 14 hours then London to Nairobi was 8 hours. My first impression of
Kenya was the "smell". It was something different from Japan...

I was surprised many things in Kenya, but also I impressed many things there. I have knew
how sky is blue, how stars are bright, how moon is beautiful..., how nature is great, how
people are warmed and I am lived... I learned many things there...

If I talk about Kenya, I cannot stop talking..., so let me introduce some food there.

Irio na Karan'ga
(=It is 'mashed potatoes with greens and Beef stew)

It is my favorite food ! Irio is food for central people in Kenya,
because those places are famous for producing potatoes.
So, some are very nice !, and healthy.

Ugali na skuma
(=It is 'steamed maize flower and Fried Tilapia)

It is my second favorite food. But the first half a year, I could not
eat Ugali and I could not understand why people like it. It is too heavy
for my stomach. Usually people eat with finger, but I was not used to
use them. So when it is hot, I have to wait to cool it...

Kumbi Kumbi (Thiswa)
(=It is 'wing ants')

In rural area people eat them. It has good protein. There are several
type, some are able to be eaten raw, but some have to be boiled and
fried. It taste like a small fish in Japan.

My country My beer...

This is the delivering car of "beer Tusker". There is several type
of them, some are able to get in Japan too. (but it is expensive...)
The label is with elephant. Elephant called tembo in Kiswahili,
so some people also called "tembo" for beer.

Kenya, Africa was very kind for me, even I could not
do anything. Sometimes I felt I am useless person,
but I learned how to live, to laugh, to sorrow, to love
and to be loved.
If somebody afraid of Africa, esp. Kenya, I want to tell him/her, it is warm place, there are somethins you do not know yet...

Dear Kenyan friends, if I misunderstand something, please let me know it soon ...
