Ken (Yr2 student at Forrest Primary) was invited as a soloist to Peg Mantle Strings which is one of the subgroups of the Canberra Youth Orchestra. The Peg Mantle Strings consists of children aged 16 or less.
This mini concert is the finish of the music camp of the Peg Mantle Strings.
Due to limited time for practise, the orchestra and the soloist were not good enough to be perfect. However, this was really a rare occasion to listen a concerto played by the soloist of Yr2 student and the orchestra of students from primary and secondary school.

The concert came to an end with a success. The performance was the best on the stage. The slow second movement was particularly excellent. The audience was about a hundred.
I express my sincere thanks to the people from the Canberra Youth Orchestra, especially to Mr Philip Hartstein, who gave Ken such an opportunity. (9.Jul.1999)

This concert was planned in protest against the cut of ACT Government fund to the School. Teachers, students and pre-tertiary course students of Canberra School of Music, and choirs from primary schools in our community performed in the concert. A part of the concert was broadcast by a local FM radio station.
The hall was nearly fullˇˇwith an audience of one thousand. It was quite a great experience for Ken to play in front of such a big audience.
ˇˇ˘˘For the first time, just two lines of Ken's news appeared in the local newspaper.˘˘
