Geography


Japan is made up of four main islands, Honshu, Hokkaido, Kyushu, and Shikoku and several hundred smaller islands in the temperate and sub-tropical zones (between 20 and 45 degrees latitude).

The total land area is 377,435 square kms, and 85 % of land is mountain.  Mt. Fuji is the highest mountain in Japan at 3,776 ms.  You can see it on clear days from many places including around Tokyo.  Japan has one of the most efficient and extensive rail networks in the world.  Japan Railways and several regional private lines provide rail service.  You can travel around Japan by trains

Population is 125 million, which is the seventh largest number of the world.

Japan has four seasons.  Generally, spring is pleasant from March to May.  In June, begins the rainy season, and it lasts about a month.  It is very humid...  The summers are hot and sticky through to September.  The typhoons usually arrive in July through to October, often hitting the southern islands and sometime Honshu.  Autumn begins in late September and lasts through mid November and it's cool and pleasant.  The winter lasts to the end of February or beginning of March.  Though, usually not too harsh.  It depends on the area.
