　昨日またまた名古屋へ出張しました。今日は矢場とんでみそかつを食べようと思ったんですが、時間がなく、名駅の山本屋で再び味噌煮込みうどんをお昼に食べました。数日前に食べたばかりなんですが、おいしかったぁ。
　さて用事が済んだ後時間が多少あったので、栄に行ってみました。私は名証がどこにあるのか知らなかったんですけど、栄のど真ん中にあるんですね。テレビ塔にも初めて行きました。展望台から下を見下ろすと、下に広がっている細長い公園の雰囲気がなんとなくパリのエッフェル塔の辺りみたいだな、と感じました。名古屋は道が広いということもあるのかもしれませんが、栄周辺などは街が広々としていますね。

・and so on；means the same thing as et cetera.

　ベースボールカードなど、カードビジネスの市場は拡大してると思います。以前はそんなに多く見られなかったスポーツカードショップもあちこちに見られるようになりました。子供の頃、カルビーのスナック菓子に付いていた仮面ライダーカードやプロ野球カードを集めていたのが懐かしいですね。
　市販されているものはともかく、やはりプレミアがつきやすいのは限定枚数かつ無料で配付されたカードでしょう。こうしたものはひょんなところでゲットするものです。
　私も今年になって、そんなカードをゲットしました。３月にMLBの日本開幕戦を観戦しましたが、その時たまたまドームに早めに到着したんですね。ま、入っちゃおうということでドームに入場したところ、カル・リプケンやチッパー・ジョーンズなど超メジャー選手６人のカードシートが配られてたんですね、無料で。何の気なしに受け取って見ると、そのメンバーの豪華さもさることながら、シリアルナンバーが印刷されており、しかもMLB日本開幕戦のマークも入ってたんです。後で新聞で見たところ、２日間全体で先着２万人に無料で配られたようです。このカードシートには早くもアメリカのベースボールカードファンから「ほしい！」という声が上がっているようで、本当かどうかわかりませんが、プレミアム必至なんだそうです。
　もう一つ、これはプレミアムがつくか疑問ですが、先週土曜日、ダービーの前日に東京競馬場に行ったとき、これも何の気なしに昼休みに競馬場内の競馬博物館に涼みに行ったんです。そしたら「ダービーを本命で勝った馬」カードが先着３万人に無料で配られており、当然のことながらゲットしました。これはミスターシービーからスペシャルウィークまで何頭かのカードセットで、好きな人は好きそうな(当たり前か)無料配付品です。
　こうしたカードはプレミアムがついたところで売る気にはならないものですね。かと言って集めてるわけでもないんですけど。

　「有徳」とは何か、ということについて、第一生命経済研究所特別顧問の佐藤光夫氏が時評で書かれていたのを読んで、なるほどぉと思いました。佐藤氏の書かれた内容はこういう感じです。
・アメリカは偉大な文明国だが、日本人には理解できない部分がある。
・一つは徹底した物質主義だ。彼らは徹底した実利主義者である。(この辺りはご自身の体験をお話されている。)彼らのボランティアはこうした日常行動の供養ではないかと思えてくる。その点、日本人は相手の立場も考えて自益権の主張を控えることが多い。いわば日常的にボランティアしている(日常生活のなかでaltruisticな部分があるということ。)から事改めて慈善だの言わないだけだ。
・もう一つはリーガリズム、法律万能主義だ。弁護士が100万人、農民より多い。東洋には「法三章」の伝統があり、大抵のことは道徳や慣習で処理している。
・こうしたアメリカニズムは、その歴史不在の理念国家という性格に由来する。世界から多種多様な人々が集まって新天地をつくったため、共通する価値は「富」しかなく、慣習が規範足りえず法律で人間行動を規制するしかなかった。
・かくてアメリカは自由・市場原理・法の支配をもって世界を秩序づけようとする。だが、「人間は物質だけか」というアンチテーゼを欠けば、資本主義自体が崩壊する。アジア危機が示したところだ。日本人は自らの「徳」を自覚しなくてはならない。さもないと、社会主義にかわる拠りどころを模索する中国人にいい助言もできないし、西欧近代の「自我」に懐疑を深めているアジア人の心情も理解できない。「第三の道」を模索している西欧ともうまく対話できないであろう。
　日本人は「顔がみえない」とよく言われますが、それの意味するところは「日本人」であることのアイデンテティを確立していないということなのでしょう。日本人自身が日本人というものをわかっているようでわかっていないのかもしれませんね。

・hassle；is a kind of small and irritating problem,something that doesn't go smoothly.I think in the 70's people use to use it quite a bit,kind of in a slungy way like don't hassle me,don't give me any trouble.
・board；in English can be used to talk about getting on to planes,trains and boats,usually vehicles like that.
・muss and fuss；is very similar in meaning to hassle,although they're never really used similary,hassle almost always describes trouble when you have trouble,muss and fuss is often used when there wasn't any trouble.
・roll her over；if you roll grandmother over somewhere,it's the same meaning as wheel her over there,means move her,help her get over there in her wheelchair.
・roll-in shower；is specially designed for a special chair for people who need to sit down in a shower so that they can roll into the shower similar to rolling around on the regular wheelchairs and take shower to get clean.

　競馬の祭典、日本ダービーが今日おこなわれ、アグネスフライトが勝ちました。今回はベテラン河内騎手が悲願のダービー制覇を達成し、とてもいいダービーだったと思います。
　ダービー自体は私も何回か競馬場で見ていますが、年々少しずつ雰囲気が変わっていくような気がします。もちろん、多くの観客を集め、その盛り上がりはすごいんですが、ダービー自体の競馬におけるポジションが少しずつ変わっているように思うんです。一つには距離、もう一つは国際化です。
　徐々に競馬の世界では短距離に中心が置かれるようになって、私が知っている範囲でもマイルＣＳを初めとした短距離Ｇ１がいくつもつくられている中で、中・長距離のＧ１は全く増えていません。また、そうしてつくられたＧ１、例えばＮＨＫマイルＣなどは外国産馬が出走馬のほとんどを占め、またジャパンカップだけでなく、宝塚記念や安田記念も国際レースとなり外国調教馬の出走が可能となっています。一方、ダービーなどのクラシックと春と秋の天皇賞は外国産馬にも解放されていません。（これについては動きがあるらしいんですけど。）2,400ｍで外国産馬に解放されていないダービーが若干時代にとり残されている感じもするんです。でも私はこれはこれでいい、と思ってるんですけどね。
　でもまあ、ちょっとＧ１が多すぎるなあ。これだけＧ１の安売りをしてしまうと、価値が下がってしまうんではないでしょうかねぇ。今日河内騎手も勝利ジョッキーインタビューで「ダービーはＧ１でも格が違いますから。」と話していました。欧州でもＧ１の数は減らす方向にあるとか。私個人として思うのに真のＧ１と言えるのは
中・長距離；ダービー・天皇賞　春・ジャパンカップ
短距離；該当なし
と思います。そこで勝手に提案ですが、新Ｇ１格付けは
①３歳チャンピオン戦；朝日杯３歳Ｓ
②４歳クラシック；皐月賞・ダービー・菊花賞・桜花賞・オークス
③長距離チャンピオン戦；天皇賞　春
④マイルチャンピオン戦；天皇賞　秋（1,600ｍに短縮）
⑤スプリンターチャンピオン戦；スプリンターズＳ（新潟の新設直線コースで開催）
⑥国際Ｇ１；ジャパンカップ
⑦ダートチャンピオン戦；ジャパンカップダート
なんてどうでしょ。こうすればＧ１の重みが出てくると思うんですけど。

　今日は府中まで競馬に行きました。朝９時過ぎに競馬場に到着し、指定席券を買うために列に並んだところ、既に明日のダービーのために列ができていました。熱心なファンは相変わらず多いですね。
　今日の東京競馬はかなり荒れ気味で何度も万馬券が出ましたが、これがまた一緒に行った連中が的中するんですよねー。万馬券を的中できなかったのは私だけ。どうやったらそんなの買えるんでしょ？

　福山雅治の「桜坂」がヒットしていますが、田園調布にある「桜坂」がその影響で有名スポットになっているようです。ただ、付近の橋の落書きがひどい状態だ、ということのようです。
　テレビ番組などの影響でいきなり観光スポットになってしまう所は多いと思います。そういった場所へ行くこと自体は別にかまわないと思いますが、最低限のルールだけは守りたいですねぇ。

　今やDNAを調べるだけで、いろいろなことがわかるようになりましたが、同時にいろいろな問題も起こっていますよね。今日の中探（おはよう中年探偵団・ニッポン放送）の中で、「世界中の民族のDNAを解析することによって、さまざまな病気の治療薬を開発すべく、世界の製薬会社などが中国などを初めとするの少数民族血液を国外に持ち出そうとしてトラブルが発生している。」ということを放送していました。
　一方、日本のバイテク技術はそうした中でも世界でトップクラスなんだそうです。最近では単なるDNAの解析だけにとどまらず、スーパーコンピューターに匹敵する計算能力を持つ、DNAをモデルにした計算機を東大と早大の共同チームが開発しているんだそうです。倫理的に問題を持つ部分と離れたところでDNAの技術を使うのは非常にいいことですね。

・most of it goes for pet food；Mann talks about most of the money people spend on their pets going for pet food.Goes for or going for,in this case,means is used by or is spent on.
・spending heavy money；heavy money means a lot of money,serious amount of money.
・expensive treatment；these costs seem quite high,it seems like a lot of money that people are spending on treatment and veterinary practice,but the point is different,a lot of money,more money is being spent on something else and Lee talks about it next.
・whatever the reason；Mann starts speaking with the phrase whatever the reason,I think she wants to focus on main points,she is not so worried about the WHYs,she is focusing on the result.

　インターネットをやっていて「遅く」て「通信料が高い」とお感じにならないでしょうか？特にテレホの時間（というかテレホの時間しかＨＰのメンテナンスをする時間がほとんどないのが実情ですが）は悲惨です。現在ではNTT回線を使わずCATVでも可能なわけですが、加入していない私にとってはNTT回線を使うしかありません。
　正直なところNTTには「ISDNのCMなんか経費かけてやってるくらいなら、定量制にせい！そうすればテレホタイムも関係ないじゃん。」と言いたくなるところです。しかし、無線定量制のアクセス手段がない以上、現実問題家庭でネットに接続するためにはNTT回線を使うしかありません。しかもISDNにしたところで、値段が高くなるばかりか64ｋまでしか通信速度は速まらないときています。
　つまるところ問題は通信産業に競争がないことだと思います。IT革命とか言ってる割に、肝心のインフラの部分でNTTが独占している状態。いわば、物流量がけた違いに拡大しているのに、肝心の有料道路を一部が独占しているようなことではないでしょうか。NTT回線を一切使用しなくても各家庭や各端末間が通信できるようなシステムが構築されない限り、今の状態が変わるとは思えません。こんなことでは諸外国に置いていかれるのでは？

・first off；is very informal way to say first or in teh first place,I don't think I've ever heard it within other psoitions like second off,third off,I don't think everybody ever said that.

　気がついたら英検の受験申し込み締切日を過ぎていました。ということで今回の英検はパスすることになりました。第二回の英検は10月ですから、今からぼちぼちと受験の準備でもしようかなあと思っているところです。
　皆さんご存知のとおり、英検は年二回しかないので、一回逃すと期間が大きく開いてしまいます。TOEICとの対比で考えてもあまりに少なすぎる感じは否めません。私は回数の少なさの問題点は、その実力の評価と時間の経過の関係にあると思います。つまり、テストである以上、その時点での実力を証明するものであって、そのレベルの維持のためには受験者に年六回くらいの受験機会を与えて継続的に受験する場をつくる必要があると思うからです。私の中では「英検合格＝英検卒業」「TOEIC目標スコアクリア＝TOEICの継続受験」みたいな雰囲気があるんですよね。

・social structure；this social structure is how the groups of chimpanzees rolls and behavior and relationships are defined within the groups.

・draw the line；drawing the line between two things is talking about seeing where the differences,many things are blended into each other,so drawing the line is making a kind of decision how far is OK and if you go to further,it's not OK.
・mistreatment；is treating someone or something badly,it's not probably not quite as bad as those abuse.
・laboratory；although I often when I'm spelling laboratory,prnounce it British,because it's easier.

　日本のホテルの中で一番いいなあと思ったのは、梅田のリッツです。(フォーシーズンズも結構好き）先日名古屋に行った時、竣工成ったマリオットに行ってお茶してきましたが、やはり正面の入口が広いところがちょっとなあ、と思いました。名古屋駅の真上というロケーションからいって仕方がないのかもしれませんけど。その点リッツは併設の商業施設側から入る、人専用の入口だけでなく、車流しのある正面の入口も狭く、ドアマンが一人一人のゲストに対してhospitalityを表現できるつくりになっているところはさすがです。(マリオットのドアマンも広い入口にもめげず、ゲストへの歓待を忘れていませんでしたが）
　「ホテルというものはサラリーマン根性でやる商売じゃなくて、一部趣味、つまり好きでやってるようなところがあるんだ。」と友人のホテルマンに聞いたことがあります。じゃなければ、なかなか続かないでしょうね。私には無理だなあ。

　日経ビジネスに「優秀な人間を囲い込むためには、賃金の高さだけではもはや足りない。また、退職金制度の確定給付型から確定拠出型(いわゆる４０１ｋ)への移行にともなって、人材の流動化が起こるであろう。その時の人材の評価基準は、その人のキャリアのトラックレコードである。」という趣旨の記事が掲載されていました。
　これはここを読んでくださっている方の中で、同様のことをお感じになられる方もいらっしゃるのではないかと思いますが、日本のサラリーマン生活においては、しばしば仕事が内向きになることがあります。つまり、今までのサラリーマンシステムにおいては、要するに内部的に評価されることが、会社の真の発展のために努力するよりも優先される場合がたびたびある、ということです。私は内部的に評価されることも重要だと思います。が、しかし、それは評価する者の質によってしばしば左右されることもあるでしょう。
　日経ビジネスの記事のようなことが今後一般化されるかはわかりません。しかし、ビジネスマン（サラリーマンではなく）としての能力を高めるためには、会社標準ではなく、せめて日本標準のキャリアを積む必要はあると思います。会社で仕事をしながら、自分の目の高さを全国、できれば世界基準の高さへ持っていくことは難しいと感じますけど・・・。

　昨日は名古屋へ出張してきました。今回名古屋駅で下車したところ、以前名古屋を通過するときに新幹線の車窓から見えた、建設中の駅ビル(駅タワー？)が完成していました。せっかくですので、最上階の展望台まで上がって名古屋の街を眺めてきました。残念ながら私は名古屋の土地勘があまりないのですが、この展望台は横浜のランドマークや千葉のポートタワー、福岡のタワー（ドームの近くにある方。すみません、名前忘れました。）と異なり、街の中心地にあるおかげで360度街並みを楽しむことができます。（もちろん、他の海岸立地のタワーも魅力がとてもありますが。)
　さて夜は初めて名古屋ドームへ野球(中日VS広島)を見に行きました。東京・大阪・福岡の各ドームへは行ったことがありますが、そことの比較をしますと、
1.他のドームは他のアミューズメント施設や商業施設とコンプレックスになっているので、野球がなくても楽しめる雰囲気があるが、名古屋ドームはぽつんとドームだけがある状態なので「賑わい感」を欠く。
2.東京ドームよりも後発であるにも関わらず、ドーム自体のデザインが・・・。(ハード的にも、福岡は開閉式の屋根、大阪は音響施設の高度化を図っている。)三塁側天井付近の内部の目隠しみたいなのがはずれちゃってるのも・・・。
3.これは1に関連することかもしれないが、飲食施設の充実度が今ひとつ。ドームの外側から入ることのできるレストラン(ハンバーガーのファーストフードのみ)はなく、フードコートと内部から渡り廊下みたいなものを渡って行くキリンのビアレストランらしきものしかない。(フードコートのような所で食べたが、タバコの煙がモウモウとしていて、タバコを吸わない人にとっては厳しい。観客席が禁煙であることが影響しているかも。)また、３～５階を一周してみたが、施設内の売店が同じような店舗に偏り気味。
　というような印象を持ちました。何かネガティブなことばかり書いてしまってごめんなさい。現在、地下鉄駅からドームまでのペディストリアンデッキを作っているようですから、これが完成して、福岡ドームのように選手のパネルを飾って、球場までの導入を楽しませることができれば雰囲気は変わるかもしれませんね。
　話は変わりますが、山本屋本店のみそ煮込みうどんは相変わらずおいしいですね。時間がないので中村区の方には行けないので、名駅の地下の方で食べましたが、本当においしいです。

　来年一月、銀座東急ホテルは閉館になります。売却先は時事通信社で、ホテルの建物を解体、更地にした後、本社社屋を建設するそうです。売却額は95億円で、敷地面積が約1,000坪ということですから、１坪約1,000万円という計算になりますね。
　私は知らなかったのですが、広いロビー、充実したホテルバー、24時間営業のコーヒーハウス、ホテルでの婚礼といった今ではあたりまえのシティホテルの「スタンダード」は、この銀座東急ホテルで実験され、その後他のホテルで実行に移されていったということです。そういう意味で日本のシティホテルのパイオニア的存在だったんですね。
　それにしても日産といい銀座東急といい、東銀座は元気がなくなってしまいました。しかし、双方ともこれから新体制、進出企業によって新たな発展モードに入ったということも言えるかもしれません。変わらないのは演舞場の賑わいだけなのかもしれませんね。

　一昨日ですか、ジャン鶴(ジャンボ鶴田のことです。)が亡くなってしまいました。プロレス界を引退してしばらく経ちますから、若い方の中にはジャン鶴が昔黒パンツではなく、リングシューズとコォーディネイトした赤と青のパンツを着用していたことを知らないどころか、「ジャンボ鶴田って誰？」という人も多いことでしょう。昔、私は何度か後楽園ホールへプロレスを見に行きましたが(ブッチャーに追いかけられた時は恐ろしかった。)、その時のジャン鶴の元気なファイトが今も目に浮かぶようです。「つ・る・たっ・おー！」なんてファンからの掛け声も懐かしいなあ。

・get into volunteer work；the phrase getting into something is used pretty often to talk about start doing something or become interested in something and it also includes the idea,but deepening of your envolvement and interest.
・the Christmas spirit；in US usually refers to feeling generous and giving and helpful,and generally being trying to be kind or nicer to fellow human beings.

　有利子負債を抱える中で、今後金利の上昇が予想されるかどうか気になるところですが、銀行屋さんと話をした中では次のような理由で中短期的には金利の上昇はないのではないか、とのことでした。
①企業の有利子負債圧縮の動きの中で銀行の貸し出し状況が弱含みである。設備投資の伸びが借入金の伸びに必ずしもリンクしていない。
②投信に資金が流入しているが、株安から短期債権への買いが集中している。結果、FB(Financing Bill・政府短期証券)、TB(Treasury Bill・短期国債)の不足が見られる。(債権高＝低金利）
①～②から、市場に資金がだぶつき気味で行き場を失っている。
　有利子負債が営業活動によるキャッシュのインフローと比較して相対的に大きいところは、金利の影響をモロに受けますので、金利の動向は本当に大きな関心事ですね。
・philanthropy；is a word that comes from Greek and originally it means something like loving mankind.In English,it is usually used to refer to efforts or groups that try to help people.
・reap；is the verb that means harvest or gather or obtain,it sounds a little bit old-fashioned that meanings.It's often used now to mean to get what you deserve in a good way.
・social problems；leonard mentioned social problems.Those are any kind of problems that affects larger areas of society or if it only affects a small area,it has the percussion throughtout the society.
・dip into the pocket；Renoir mentions dipping into pockets,thet phrase always means to take out money,you put your hand into a pocket to take out money to pay for something or help somebody.

　数日前LBO(Leveraged Buy-Out)のことを日記に書きましたが、今日の日経にアメリカでLBOが再び脚光を浴びているという記事が載りました。
　私の知る限りではLBOのごくごく簡単な流れは、
1.営業利益の拡大
2.負債のレバレッジをきかせるため、有利子負債額を拡大、負債比率の上昇、負債調達コストのUP
3.レバレッジの反作用としての株主期待利益率の向上
4.結果として、株主資本コスト(株主期待利益率)の上昇以上のROE(Return on Equity・株主資本利益率＝税引後利益／株主資本)の向上
となります。
　つまり、LBOは結果として多額の有利子負債を抱え込むことになるので、当初の目論見通り業績や外的環境が推移しない場合、負債の返済の原資となるキャシュフローが十分に得られず、債務不履行の危機に陥るおそれがあります。よって従来は技術革新や景気変動、突発債務等による影響が少なく、また、株価が割安で処分すれば利益の出る含み資産があるような企業がターゲットとされてきた経緯があります。
　日経によれば、最近のアメリカのLBOの特徴は、ハイテク分野の案件が増加してきたことだそうです。上に書いたことを考えれば、ハイテク関連はLBOにとってはリスクが高すぎると判断されてきたわけですが、成長性の割に株価が低迷しているハイテク企業が少なくなく、魅力的な案件が増えてきたことがその理由のようです。
　この記事を読んで、ハイテク関連であっても、その企業の株価の低迷はＭ＆Ａの対象となることにつながっていくことを改めて思い知らされたような気がします。株価の低迷を放置するとどうなるのか改めてはっきりしてきた今、ROEの向上、IR活動など積極的な株主重視主義を打ち出す必要がありますね。

・torch bearers；are leaders.
・community spirit；usually refers to the way people feel about their community that leads some into doing good things for it.It's not just feeling like your neighbours,it's probably includes some pride in community and a desire to make it better.
・shot up nearly ten percent；usually with percent,you need to use the word by or to.The meaning is quite different,this one must mean by nearly ten percent.It's clear from the context,but if you're not sure the persons listening to you or reading your report will understand whether it's by or to some percent,be sure to include it.

　雑誌「Ms.」の創刊者のインタビューが先日テレビ番組の中で流れていました。女性解放をテーマに発行されてきた同誌は、今や若手の編集者達のディスカッションを中心に編集されているそうです。この話を友人のネイティブにしましたところ、
「Miss.とMrs.ってね、それぞれmistress,Mademoiselleから来てるんだよ。これは女性に対して差別的な偏見があるってことだと思う。結婚しようがしていまいが、その人自身であることにはかわりがない。だからMs.という言葉が社会的に一般的になることがこれから当たり前になってくると思う。日本人の若い女性も自分の職業のことを考えて学校を選んでほしい。有名女子大学だから、ということだけで選ばずに、自分のキャリアをまずイメージすることが必要。そのためにはまず自分の考え方をしっかり持つことが必要ね。中学生や高校生の時から、もっとディベートのトレーニングをすることも有効だと思う。そう、論理的に話を展開する能力を身につける必要があるね。」
という返事でした。
　ディベートのトレーニングは私自身も中高生の頃にした覚えはありませんが、冷静に議論をすすめる能力は社会に入ってから必要な場面が多いと思います。学校教育の中にこうした議論の場をつくることは、いいことですね。例えば少年法というテーマで議論する、なんていうのはどうでしょうか。

・community service；can cover many kinds of services,usually mean volunteer,it could be helping out the library,it could be working with poor people or disadvantaged people,it could be helping children in after-school sports.
・tithe；I've heard of it,I think it comes mostly from Christianity from churches.I think people had a very heavy,very serious responsibility to pay ten percent whatever their income was.I'm sure some people still do that,but I think it's less of a requirement to remain part of the church community than used to be.Thsi kind of charity and giving to charity has a really long history in the WEST,I think it's grown up all along the Christianity,and maybe came in earlier,although I can't say for sure.
・as it turned out；is a nice phrase to use,if you introduce the result of some longer process.

　先日、クリントン大統領自身が出演するビデオが公開された、というニュースを見ました。内容はとてもコミカルなもので、記者会見で法案を説明する大統領の話を聞いているのが、たった１人の女性記者で、彼女が「あんた、まだいたの？」というシーンは傑作でした。
　このビデオを見て、いかにユーモアというものが彼の地では大切にされているかということを垣間見たような気がしました。やっぱり笑いってとても重要なんですね。

　あるTOEICのテキストブックに「企業買収＝leveraged buyout」とあったのを見て、確かにLBOは企業買収の一手法（USでは一般的な手法のようですが）ではありますが企業買収全てがそうではないな、と思いました。
　このLBOとは企業の買収をおこなう際に、買収先の資産を担保に資金を調達して買収するというのが特徴で、暖簾分けやTOBなどとは手法が異なります。
　この言葉を理解するためには「レバレッジとは何か」ということを考える必要があると思います。一言で言うなら、「借金をする（leverage）ことでリターンが嵩上げされる」ということです。つまり全額自己資金でやるよりも、借入金で資金を調達した方がリターンが大きくなるということです。（このあたりは実際に表で説明するとわかりがいいんですが。）
　例でいうと、X0年度に100投資してその後８年間にわたって15づつリターン（９年目に60回収）するプロジェクトがあったとするとIRRは11％ですね。ところが最初の投資の100の半分（つまり50）を５％で借り、９年間で均等返済すると仮定すると、返済後の手取りを考えればIRR＝20％くらいになるになるわけです。（エクセル等でIRRを出してみてください。）

　今日は千葉の方ではかなり強い雨が降ったのですが、銀座まで来たらすっかり止んで？いました。聞いたところ「こっちじゃ降ってなかったよ。」とのこと。この調子じゃあマリーンズ戦は中止かなあ、と思ったのですが、新聞を見てみると今日は神戸での対オリックス戦でした。スワローズもゲームがないし。
　いつも私は「やっぱりボールパークは天然芝でドームじゃない方がいいなあ。」と思っているクチなんですが、見たいときに雨で中止だとやっぱり「ドームもいいかなあ。」なんて都合よく考えてしまいます。今年はグリーンスタジアム神戸が内野も天然芝になったそうで、一度見に行きたいのですが、残念ながら神戸方面には出張もなく、また知り合いもいないのでなかなか行くチャンスはなさそうです。もし行くチャンスがあれば、ぜひデーゲームがいいなあなんて思いますね。

　「悪法は法であるか？」の問いに何と答えればいいでしょうか。この場合の「悪法」の「法」は「法律」であり、その国の立法機関で定められたものである、とすれば、この場合の「悪」というのはその国の社会体制や道徳観から矛盾したものである、と定義づけられると思います。民主主義社会体制において基底になっているのは、人間として生きていく限り他人を侵害する行為は許されるべきでない、という道徳観でしょう。こうした道徳観は、正義の要請によってその社会体制の秩序の中に組み入れられ、「法」の中に体現されるべきものだと考えます。
　最近の数々の事件を見てそんなことを思いました。
・rip off；is slang for steal or cheat. Sometimes if people feel like they've been cheated, they say What a rip-off!
・screen；If you're screened for something, you're checked out.
・bad guy；is a phrase that's very easy to use to talk about any unspecific people who do bad things, so criminals or just people who aren't very nice.
・buyer beware；is used in English. They're English words themselves, but often the Latin words that this translates is used.In Latin it's caveat emptor,it's spelled c a v e a t, caveat, and e m p t o r, emptor. Sometimes caveat alone is used meaning warning.
・niche market；niche has two pronunciations. A lot of people say nich like we did today. Another way to pronounce is nish,it comes originally from French, and nish is the way it's pronounced there.
・interest；Sometimes sales people use this phrase Can I interest you in buying too?
・per capita；means per person or per head. You could use any one of those phrases in this space.

　サッカー協会が代表監督について揉めているようです。私個人的には、この状態を収拾できないのであれば、岡野会長は即刻責任をとってほしいと思います。
　思い返せば前回フランスＷ杯の時、加茂監督の続投問題で揉めたときに、加藤久強化部長のネルシーニョ推薦を長沼会長が蹴り、結果的に予選の途中で岡田監督に代えたのは記憶に新しいところです。（しかも傍目から見て、その後岡田監督に強化についていろいろな意味で高い自由度を与えたとは考えにくいと思います。）
　日本において、ある組織の最高責任者が「名誉職」であってもいい時代は過ぎ去りました。責任を釜本氏に押しつけることなく、しっかりとしたビジョンを持って強化にあたってほしいと思います。

　先週のやさビジのビニエットにありましたが、リサイクルに関する意識というのは日本でも高まりつつありますね。リサイクルショップもあちこちで見かけるようになりました。
　私が知らないだけかもしれないんですけど、日本ではリサイクル関係のNPOは少ないんじゃないでしょうか。（というよりも私は聞いたことがないんですけど。）全国規模で先週のビニエットに出てくるようなNPOがどんどん出てくるといいんじゃないかなって思います。例えば「Dress for サラリーマン」とか。まだ着られるのに、タンスの奥にしまったままのスーツなんかけっこうあると思うんですけどねー。

・punch it out；when you're punching it out,you're fighting.It sounds like a boxing match,but in this case,of course,you're not actually boxing with each other,they're fighting for share in the market.
・Sure；is sometimes used to answer the meanings YES or I agree.In this case,it's introducing a contrary point but unfortunately we have to wait for the next to find out what is contrary point.

・supermarket；in English probably is not quite the same as スーパーマーケット in Japanese.In the US,it's usually centered on food and related items they often sell a few other things,you might be able to buy sox or a little bit paper,but really they're focused on food.
・a sea change；is a deep or very noticiable change in something.
・a whole new face；means it looks completely different so consumer's culture is changed completely.
・Nelson's Folly；folly and Nelson's Folly is used fairly often for large expensive projects that failed or projects are desigened expensively when it could've been done on the smaller scale or at a lower cost therefore have ben successful.
・trade press；Lee also talks about trade press,she is refering to publishers or journal in the magazines that focus on the specific industry.
・grocery chore；I think this is a have it,I guess you call it that's may be a little surprising to Japanese people,it seems to me that mopst people,in my experience anyway,go shopping everyday or nearly everyday for fresh fruits and vegetables things like that.In US people tend to go shopping once a week and it's often on Saturday morning,so that's a great time to avoid the store if you can.
・no wonder；In English using the phrase no wonder often shows that you expected whatever someone told you.

　休みってあっという間に過ぎますね。今回のゴールデンウィークも終わってみれば何をやっていたのか、よくわかりません。ただ言えることは英語の勉強はしなかった、ということですね。
　最近本当に思うのですが、英語ってある時に集中して勉強した方がいいですね。次回の英検は受けるかどうか迷っているところですが、ボキャビルの手段として英検を利用することはとても有効なことだと思います。一方リスニング力アップの手段としてTOEICの利用もいいことだと思います。つまり試験というものはそれ自体で結果を出すことも重要ですが、それによって自分の現在価値を延ばす手段でもあるのではないか、ということです。

　石原都知事の発言に対し、知り合いのネイティブが腹を立てていますが、「でもアメリカでも右寄りの人っているでしょ？」と言ってみました。
　すると「右寄りっていうのは国によって若干定義が違うと思うのね。例えば共和党のことをどう思ってる？共和党と民主党では場合によっては保守的・革新的な立場が入れ替わることがあるんだよ。例えば、基本的に共和党はcapital punishmentには賛成、abortionには反対の立場を取るのに対し、民主党はcapital punishmentには反対、abortionには賛成なんだよ。だからCatholicにとっては、どちらにも全面的な支援がし難いわけ。人口的にはCatholicの方が圧倒的に多いのに対し、protestantの方が政治的に力があるのも事実。この前初めてCatholicがMinistry of congressになったんだよ。」とのこと。
　実際にはUSにもcentrist partyはあるそうなんですが、まだまだ二大政党に比べれば政治的な力は持っていないようです。

　Ｊリーグが開幕して以来、日本にも芝のサッカーグラウンドができるようになりましたが、実際に芝のグラウンドでサッカーをする機会はなかなかないものです。
　今日は清水エスパルスの練習場の真横（というか敷地内）のグラウンドで一日サッカーをしました。たまたまエスパルスも明日ゲームだということで練習をしていたため、けっこうな数のギャラリーがいました。（こちらのゲームも見に来られたら緊張しちゃうなあ、と思いましたがいらぬ心配でした（＾_＾；。）
　芝のグラウンド（某製薬会社Ｇ）ではたまにゲームをするのですが、やはり芝は気持ちいいですね。日本のサッカープレーヤーのパススピードが遅いのは、子供の頃土のグラウンドでプレーするからだ、とどこかで読んだことがありますが、一理あるかなと思いますね。芝でのボールの転がり方、プレーに対する影響などは小さい頃に体験しておいて損はないと思います。川淵チェアマンが「芝のサッカーグラウンドが日本に増えていってほしい。」と若き日にドイツを訪れた時に思った、ということを述懐していましたが、今確実に日本はその方向に向かってくれていると思います。

　今回の西鉄バスジャックは「日本はもはや安全な国ではない。」ということを世の中に知らしめた、歴史的な事件であるような気がします。今までもいろいろな犯罪がありましたが、今回の事件は事件に巻き込まれる危険性がすぐそこにあることを国民に思い知らさせたと思います。加害者に人間に対する感情が欠けていることを感じましたがどうでしょうか。バスに乗るのが怖くなりました。

・fund-raising；There are all kinds of events that people use for fund-raising.You can see them on TV sometimes and they call telethons might be 24-hour program with the singers and actors donating their time,sometimes they call telethons,because you call up in pledge money some group even fifty cents and may be a dollar for every mile that they walk and they raise money that way.
・matching gift programs；This kind of donation by a company is fairly common in US,it's for the charity,sometimes it's also giving to your university,all kinds of situation that people individually give money,the company might match your gift.

　水泳の千葉すず選手がオリンピックの代表から選考漏れしましたが、理由は彼女の舌禍なんでしょうね。私は詳しく知りませんが、以前同じようなことで千葉選手が非難されたことがあったようで、それはどういう発言だったのでしょうか。
　サッカーの中田選手も同じように、マスコミ受けが悪く、インタビューにおいてもまともに受け答えしないようです。まあプレーを観てくれというスタンスであることと、発言が曲解されることに嫌気が差したことと二つ理由があるんでしょうね。
　洋の東西を問わず、一般的には注目されればされるだけ、その人の発言に対する目が厳しくなり、少しでも隙を見せたら途端に叩かれる傾向があるんじゃないでしょうか。また、記者が人間である以上、マスコミに対する対応が悪い選手ほどよくは書かれない傾向もあると思います。
　もし私が中田選手や千葉選手だったら、できる限り差し障りのない発言をするよう努力するでしょうが、記者も押したり引いたりいろいろな手を使ってくるでしょう。でも何だかんだ言っても、スポーツ選手は「勝てば官軍」でマスコミも勝てば評価するじゃないですか。そんなところも中田選手の口を閉ざす原因かもしれません。スポーツ選手も戦う相手がフィールド外にいることを考えるとなかなか大変ですね。

・all you have to do；This is the second time Lee used the phrase with all.At the beginning she said all they ask and this time she said all you have to do.All sounds like everything but,usually this phrase is used to introduce something that's not so difficult or doesn't have many elements,it's something that's relatively easy to do.
・lend a hand；if you lend a hand,you help somebody.
・I'll be as happy as a clam.；if you're as happy as a clam,it means you're very very happy.I think the full phrase is as happy as a clam at high tide,so it's deep under the water,nobody can't correct it for lunch.
・the package；is all of the things necessary to make a woman look professional,it's not only a suit.

　連休後半直前のウィークデイ（？）ということもあってか、夜の街はかなりの人出でした。スーツ姿以外で飲んでる方も多く、私にとってはうらやましい限りでした。労働時間って同じ会社でも職種によって異なるわけですけど、やっぱり土日休みでずっとサラリーマン生活を送っていると、急にこのリズムを変えるのは、なかなか難しいでしょうね。

・donate their old clothes；micky talks about donate the old clothes,but how old are the clothes?It sounds like kind of terrible,I think,there are just the original purchasers,if you think about women working in the offices,I think,they tend to buy new suits and new clothes fairly often,not because the old suits are worn out,but because they need to keep up good appearances,so donating their old clothes to other people who need them doesn't sound so terrible,they are not really that old.I think there is also still a little more expectant of taking things you used,but are still perfectly good and giving them to someone else who could use them.I think that's much easier to do these days in US,then doing in Japan.

　今日はゴールデンウィークながら、暦の上では休日ではなく、御出勤された方も多いと思います。実は私も出勤したクチでして、明日も会社は休みではありません。中には２９日から７日まで連休の方もいらっしゃると思いますが、うらやましいですねー。年によっては３日から５日が休みということで、最短３日しか休みがないのですが、思い切って３日から５日のどれかがかかる週は、全国的に休みにしちゃったら、どうなんでしょうかねえ。

・wear；In this sentence,wear is used as a verb,it can also be used as a noun.When it's used as a noun,it doesn't refer to the clothing that you're wearing,it usually refer to a category of clothing like sports wear or woman's wear,neck wear means neckties and scarfs,occasionary I hear people say things like Oh,your wear is very nice today,that's a mistake in usage,you should say your outfit or specifically your jacket or your dress.
