2002/06/01 (sat)
I went for a drive to the Strathcona Provincial Park in this Vancouver Island with my school friends.
It was quite a long drive, even though I had heard from Canadian people that we can get there for 4 hours using high way.
But in fact, it took 5 hours for one way. The weather was so nice that we could see everything beautiful.
We rent a mini-van for 7 of us including Yoichi, but we didn't have enough drivers, only one of my friends named Yuka
and I. It was a hard drive for us. We should have stayed one night somewhere!
The scenery was so beautiful! We could see the snow-capped mountains and lakes and some water falls.
In the Buttle Lake district where we went had a lot of trails lead to very fine alpine scenery but we didn't have enough time
to try hiking, which was very wasteful. However we were satisfied with the lake view near the snow-capped mountains and falls.
We dipped our feet in the lake and took enough time for rest. When we could also go to the McMillan Park Cathedral Grove
near Port Alberni to see the huge tree, it was already past 6 pm. We had to be thankful that it was still light until 9:30 in this season.
It is a grove of virgin forest with huge Douglas firs and red cedars, some dating back 800 years.
When we arrived downtown at last, it was past 9:30. We could not find any restaurant to eat dinner except for the family restaurants.
We wanted to eat at the Japanese restaurant but we had to give up. We went to the family restaurant named White Spot where
we had been on the next day we were thrown away by the previous host family last summer.
Yoichi could have the same pirate chicken plate as the one he had eaten at that time.
He was so happy that he brought the paper tray shaped the pirate ship home. We could get home just before 12:00 am!
I was so tired today. But I can't sleep longer tomorrow because I have to take the car key back to the car rental office by 9 AM.
