Lyrics-Eyeless In Gaza

<All Under The Leaves, The Leaves of Life>

Monstrous Joy
Slow sounds in a room, somewhere
miles out, miles away, unravelling.
...and some song drowns the slow stars away...
as all around in the lightening of the day
stumbling, remembering, like an echo that has died away
here is a sorrow that owns me, here is a sorrow that speaks

speaks in tastes of strange,
tastes of stranger tales that I know,
buried under dazzling frames
so loveless, so aloof and unclaimed
a haunted name, one that drives sleep away...
haunting, so beguiling, such a music that I cry.
...for here is sorrow, sorrow that owns me...

Struck Like Jacob Marley
what did you have in mind when you told me
'everything seems wrong', while tapping yr feet to
an overbearing rhythm shot with longing-
well, where do you belong?
...it's almost as tho you have no positive view,
and the old warmth is going, even tho you don't wish to....

yr shaken, pierced and barely believing;
underlining every wrong...
looking back with a longing,
altho you say you've moved on ,
to somewhere else you think is different and new-
the past still drag thru...clawing, defiling you.....

Morning
a stance echoing an island,
a stature so purely your own
design, struck and set like iron;
relentless, steadfast as a stone
plummeting in an ocean with just one way of going,
driving down with a vengeance born of a surety...a kind of determined fire-smelted out of desire and cooling
too brittle for a safe retreat-
like an ocean island-

a hand taken where the tide is
and cast out to shore with the foam...
chill and shivering, like time is stopped now and forever,
enclosed hard and fast, swallowed up and sealed over
with looks of steel, steely endeavour...
almost a death in those
pale eyes that slumber...
sleepwalking further underwater in
your drowning and deep aloofness-
like an ocean island.

Fracture Track
blasted and blinded to chaos, such sorry scenery...
a tangle of irony, a web of alluring duplicity is waiting
and beckoning, preying in the wings...
damaging and incoherent, laughing in yr face then...
and grief. it seems so sear so, into blue distance...
poising, ready yet again.

fracturing, eyeless, unseeing, emptying hideously...
riding an animal hatred...a deadweighted misery,
deliberate, and crushing cursing, making you pretend...
forcing such a numb and wasting path for you to blithely
tread-grief, it seems sear so, into blue distance...
robbing you, and sealing you, yet again.

Answer Song And Dance
where we were was...
taking our time...following pointers to what we felt like...
then, it was heady, like a first glass of wine, singing thru
our veins.
(I spy you free-falling, running impatient,
with fingers drumming...noising around...
and now yr looking for something new
to steal you once again.
a hand in the till, and its short change yr taking,
as you smile to yourself, as yr knees are quaking...
walking on water with sealegs shaking, looking around in vain.)

...we sway...we float, in a weaving manner...
a veiny transparency, so like a feather...
then, crashing back to the earth, charging hell
for leather in disarray.

Passing And Distant View
seeing things from such a distance can but give a
peculiar view...
full of movement, noise and colour, but somehow removed
from you...
and looking from there you'll always find
interest, but...you'll never be captivated; you'll have
only a cursory glance, a passing moment leaving you
longing...

Damning Yourself Broken
you seem to be talking to yourself when you say
these words so sad, that cut so harsh in you...
yr a sad and cracked reflection of yr own shattered outlook...
damning yourself broken with short-sighted love-
altho you yourself know that you've hardly yet begun,
you seem to have fallen into a fixed resignation; a fatalistic
viewpoint, serving only to drag, only to cut...
carefully, binding you by hand and by foot and trapping
every limb to your short-sighted love...altho you yourself
know that you've hardly yet begun...
