BLUE CAT RECORDS/NEW YORK CITY

Girl Group Sounds で有名な【RED BIRD RECORDS】のNew Label として
1964年ニューヨークで Jerry Leiber と Mike Stoller プロデュースによって
設立された【BLUE CAT RECORDS】
猫が横たわってラッパを吹いているレーベルデザインは当時としては
めずらしくコミカルな印象である．．．
1966年までの間枚数は少ないものの良質のDOO WOP,JAZZ,R&B,SOUL
をちりばめたサウンドを聞かせてくれます．．．

代表格でもある The Ad Libs の "The Form New York City"を聞けば
おわかりになられると思いますが Doo Wop 調のとてもコミカルなサウンドは
当時のニューヨークシティを思い出させるかのような気持ちになります．．．
Lead Vocal の Mary Ann Thomas の歌声のせいでしょうか．．．
SOUL というより当時はやりの Girls Group Sounds のようなとてもPOPな
かわいい歌声を聞かせてくれます
この5人組のグループは早々とTOP10入りをはたし BLUE CAT に
4枚のシングルを残しています．．．

私のお気に入りの EVIE SANDS です．．．
ニューヨーカーの彼女は白人でありながらとても
SOULFULな歌声を聞かせてくれます．．．
中でもこの "You've Got Me Uptight"は
NOTHERN テイストたっぷりのとてもすばらしい
出来に仕上がってます．．．
この時代　《Blue Eyed Soul》なんて言われながら
とても白人とは思えない力強いボーカルと
ヒット曲 "I Can't Let Go"はCAMEO時代の
彼女より私にとっては必聴の２枚です．．．

なぜ今回は BLUE CAT だって？？　特に理由はないのですがたまたまお家の庭で．．．
猫が３匹昼寝をしていました．．．「よっしゃ～～」．．とすかさず私は水鉄砲を持ち出し「ニャーーオォォ～」
と叫びながら撃ちまくってやりました．．．さすが！命中率100％の私の腕が炸裂しあまりの迫力に
猫ちゃんはブルブルふるえながら逃げて行きました．．．
　
．．．と言うわけで今回の特集はこの3匹の猫チャンに捧げたいと思います。ん？
