| AFRICAN STAR GRASS (Cynodon plectostachyus) |
| Star grass is a spreading stolon niferious growing perennial crop. The stolon or runner readily produces root at the nodes. It can tolerate during drought period and can adapt to a wide range of soil types and environmental conditions. It reacts favorably to nitrogen application and can withstand heavy grazing. However, star grass is less palatable compared to other improved grass species. It is generally recommended for grazing purposes in fact to slightly rolling topography and propagated by stem cutting or runners. This species grows on both heavy and light soils, produces long runners and makes a good grazing sward. Can be heavily grazed and responds quickly to applications of nitrogen. Quick growing and good for covering hillsides to control erosion. This also is lowland plain generally below 200 ft. |
