IPIL-IPIL (Leucaenia luecoephala)

This is a leguminous tree whose leaves have high protein content. Contains mimosine, which causes shedding of hair non-ruminants, but new cultivars have been developed with lower mimosine content. Planted in double rows in pasture and along fences.This is the most popular and widely used fodder true species in the country. It is widely adapted to smallholder farms.This is an evergreen shrub or true grown as a fodder plant and soil improves. It is often interplanted with panicum maximum in Hawaii. It has a potential value as high protein browse legume.Ipil-ipil is a deep rooting leguminous tree. It is an erect, summer-growing pernnial, which may develop to a small tree 10 to 30 feet tall. It is very easy to plant a cutting and to graft even from seeds for increasing trees.Ipil-ipil is suited to well drained soils in warm regions receiving more than 10 inches of annual rainfall. Its forage has high protein content and is relished by all kinds of livestock.This dried seed is effective for destroying parasitic worms in human medicinal case.
