Kudzu is extremely vigorous, trailing legumes, which produce runners up to 9 m long. These pasture proved to be the most productive on high rainfall part of the country and combines well with most of the tropical grasses.Livestock raisers found Kudzu unpalatable of their animals, but this observation was not confirmed experimentally. Animal acceptance is not a problem when Kudzu is combined with grasses. The usual habit of animal acceptance is focused on grasses but Kudzu and other legumes are included during grazing.Tropical Kudzu is a very vigorous and aggressive perennial legume which grows best at the warmer elevations below 3000 feet. It is generally grown as a cover crop on a wide variety of soils but prefers the heavier clay soils. Not generally recommended as a pasture legume as it is inclined to smoother the slower growing grass species and cannot heavy grazing. Sown at a rate of 4 to 5 kg per ha. |
