PARA GRASS (Brachiaria mutica)

Para grass is a creeping perennial crop with stout ground runners which roots fully at the nodes. It grows well under warm humid condition and best suited under low flat land and in areas where drainage is a problem. The common form of propagation is by planting stem cutting or runners. However , in larger hectarage, planting materials can be spread out evenly and allow harrowing by tractor to provide proper contact to the soil surface.
Para grass grows well on moist heavy soil and it can stand long periods of waterlogging. Will also grow where there is a marked dry season but prefers the higher rainfall condition. Grown essentially for grazing but it can be cut for soilage. It can withstand considerable grazing pressure and it is a most useful species. Grown from root and stem cutting only.
