INFECTIOUS BRONCHITIS
(IB)

Causative Agent: Coronavirus of several atrains

Transmission:
1. Droplet inhalation of aerosol
2. Ingestion of contaminated feed and water
3. Contact with infected chickens, contaminated equipment, clothing of caretakers.

Incubation Period: 18 to 48 hours.

Morbidity: nearly 100%

Mortality: 60% in young chickens. Less than 5% in adult chickens.

Age Group affected: All age are affected.

Signs:
!. Coughing, sneezing raies.
2. Weakness, depression and huddling.
3. Drop in egg production with soft-shelled or misshapen eggs.
4. Diarrhea.

Gross Lesions:
Trachea and bronchi - mucoid exudate.
Air sacs - thickened and opaque.
Kidneys - swollen with ureters and tubules distended with urates.
Ovary - ovarian follicles appear flaccid with yolk material throughout peritoneal cavity.
Oviduct - presence of impaction.

Diagnosis:
1. Viral isolation
2. ELISA test
3. Virus neutralization test
4. HI test

Differential Diagnosis:
Newcastle Disease.
Infectious Laryngotracheitis.

Prevention: Vaccination

Control: Reduce mortality through antibiotic therapy and increasing temperature in the house.

Recommended Supportive Medication: None.

Kidneys are swollen and distended with urates.
Air and pericardial sacs are thickned and opaque.
