INFECTIOUS LARYNGOTRACHEITIS

Causative Agent: Herpesviridae

Transmission:
1. Direct contact from acutely in fected birds.
2. Mechanical transmission through contaminated equipment and litter.

Incubation Period: 1 to 2 weeks

Morbidity: 90 to 100%.

Age Group affected: 5 to 16 weeks oid.

Signs:
1. Nasal duscharge.
2. Moist rales
3. Coughing and gasping.
4. Dyspnea and expectoration of blood-stained mucus.
5. Reduced egg production.
6. Watery eyes.
7. Swelling of infra-orbital sinuses.

Gross Lesions:
1. Trachea
- mucouid inflammation of tissues to degeneration of mucosa.
- hemorrhagic.
2. Larynx - presence of diptheric lesions.

Diagnosis:
1. Clinical signs.
2. Gross lesions.

Differential Diagnosis:
1. Fowl Pox
2. Infectious Bronchitis.
3. Mycotoxicosis.

Prevention:
1. Avoid mixing vaccinated or recovered birds with susceptible ones.
2. Vaccination.

Control: Vaccination in the presence of an initial outbreak may shorten the course of the disease.

Recommended Supportive Medication: None.

Bloody mucus in the trachea.
