Naval Battle for beginners

In Cossacks, there is an option to play naval battle, but it isn't popular as land battle because of the reasons such as the matter of time and resource. However, many ships have appeared since the add-on had been released, so lets try to play with navy!!

Well, I also don't have so much experience in naval battle but I hope that people who have read this article will want to play a naval battle in multi player game at least once.

 

Economic building

This version of building economy uses Western European countries. My economic build up isn't so good. Therefore please consider as one of the example.

 

1.Start until the construction of the fourth town hall

Like the most economic build up, the basic is to do "Raise Miners Salary" and construct 4th Town hall as quick as possible. However when you are playing a naval battle fill the entire mine on your island before you construct 4th Town hall. The construction of the 4th town hall will delay, but the resources you get from the mine is more important in the naval battle. Also you should build about 2 artillery depot and start making coastal defense cannons.

 

2.4th town hall until 18c

Before advancing to the 18th century do "Raise builder's Salary" and build 5 shipyards for fishing. You should choose the place where battle won't occur to construct the shipyard. At this time start constructing the dwelling. If shipyards were constructed build about 100 to 150 fishing boats after "Build new shipyards for fishing boats", and "Train Carpenters". Then make more shipyards to provide more dropping point for fishing boats. Iron is needed when constructing shipyards so building more mines in the beginning will give you an advantage.

 

3. Making shipyards for navy

When there are enough profits from fishing boats, start making the shipyards for navy at the coastline where enemy is likely to come. Also build a shipyards at the each end of the area where there're fishing boats to protect your boats.

Then go to 18c when there is enough food. I think the time of advancing to 18c isn't so important but it will differ in each tactics.

To protect your island and to land to the opponent's build 2~3 stables. If there is a good 17c cavalry (Winged Hussar and Cavalry Guard for ex.) build more stables before advancing to 18c, if you have to use 18c cavalry go to 18c as quick as possible.

Also finish the upgrades "Develop New Woodworking Methods", "Design New Rib System and New Hulls" and "Research New Sighting Device for Artillery".

If there is more than enough resource, upgrade gold mines to level3. Naval battle needs a lot of resource so it is likely to have at least 4gold, an iron and 2 coal mines to be upgraded until level3.

 

4. Making navy

Start making the fleet with the shipyards that you made at step3. First make yacht as many as you can. It's likely to make at least 50, if you can make 100. Then make Frigates, and Galleys. It will be better if you set a rally point to the place near where battle might occurs. Also keep making additional stables.

 

5. Getting a necessary resources

The naval battle uses a LOT of resources and it isn't enough if you are getting them from the mines. So you have to exchange the food you get from the boats. There will be about a million to exchange. Also change the stones, which isn't necessary for the naval battle.

 

There are some people who say economic building in naval battle is hard but I don't think so, instead I think it's very easy. There are no needs to upgrade your units during the peacetime, no need for great amount of unit during the pt, and there is no need for cannons depending on the strategy.

 

Characteristics of ships

Fishing boat

There isn't anything to explain but there are some points that you have to be careful.

1.      Don't make so much because they will stuck

2.      They are easy to sink. They sink when they touch other ships.

3.      The cost will rise. So don't do ¡çproduction.

For Turkey and Algeria, it can be used as a scout

 

17c fleet

Yacht: all nations except for Turkey, Algeria and Ukraine

Production Speed: 3000

Merit of this unit is fast and cheep so you can make a LOT!! However the attack rate is so high so it isn't worth battling, but it is fast so you can assault into the opponents fleet. This unit has a lot of usage.

Something you have to be careful: The cost will rise as you make units so make them at once. Also when you order many of them to move, they will congregate at one the place you have ordered to move. What's wrong with this? Well, if fleets congregate in one place there is high chance of your fleets getting damage from the bits that comes from other ship when it is attacked. So you have to mix a large fleet when you are moving with large number or just move with small numbers.

 

Turkish Yacht: Turkey

Cost: W900 G450 I100 C200 cost rises 5% as it is made

Production speed: 300

HP 35000  Defense 100  Keeping cost 1.825  Cost per shot I5 C15

Attack/Rate 1000/350  Range 300/1100>Full up 300/1270

Defense and speed of this unit is very good but the keeping cost is to high so it is hard to use nnn¡Ä. I can only think to use this as a shield.

 

Galley: all nations

Cost: W9500 G1100 I1100

Production speed: 3000

HP 50000  Defense 100  Keeping cost 0.9735  Cost per Shot I4 C9

Attack/Rate Cannon 1000/50  Mortar 100/150

Range     Cannon 300/1100 Mortar 1100/3100

With high defense and hit points, this unit is a best shield for other fleets. This unit has two kinds of attack, mortar and a cannon. When battling with ship, you have to get closer to be in the range where you can shoot cannon. The keeping cost is quite high so don't make so much.

 

17c Frigate: European countries and Russia

Cost: W5000 G1500 I800 C1000

Production speed: 15000

HP 50000  Defense 0  Keeping Cost 0.1875  Cost per Shot I25 C35

Attack/Rate 1800/75  Range 400/1650>Full up 400/1905

Navy is mainly consisted of frigates. This unit has a high parameter of attack but it has no defense so you should use it with a shield unit (Galley for ex.)

 

Xebec: for Muslims

Cost: W7000 G2200 I400 C1200

Production speed: 15000

HP 65000  Defense 100  Keeping Cost NONE!! Cost per Shot I25 C35

Attack/Rate 1800/50 Range 550/1700>Full up 550/1963

This is Islam frigate. There is no keeping cost so make as many as you can.

 

Battleship

Cost: W9000 G4500 I900 C9000

Production speed: 25000

HP 50000  Defense 100  Keeping Cost 18.75  Cost per Shot I5 C15

Attack/Rate 1800/20  Range 600/1950>Full up 600/2047

Strongest 17c naval fleet in both attack and defense, but its keeping cost is very high and it will rebel when there is no money. This unit is hard to sink so it is vey useful when there is no 18c naval fleet, or using Islam. Be careful of money!!

 

Galleass: Venice only

Cost: W11500 G1100 I1100

Production speed: 3000

HP 65000  Defense 100  Keeping cost 0.9735 Cost per Shot I40 C90

Attack/Rate 1000/150  Range 300/2000

This is a new unique unit for Venice. It is like a frigate with high defense so I think this is a useful unit. However keeping cost is quite high so it isn't likely to make so much.

 

18c fleet

Cutter

Production speed: 1000

Both upgrade cost and production cost is very low. Attack is very low too but it is very fast so you can use it to raid your opponent.

 

Ketch

This is to destroy enemy opponent. It shoots HE bomb for long distance, but attack rate is twice of the howitzer. It is expensive and week. Is there anyway to use this?

 

18c Frigate

This ship has the best balance in 18c fleets. However upgrade cost is very high and the price will rise as you make them, but it is strong and have high defence so make as much as possible.

 

Ship of Line

Production speed: 2500

Strongest, toughest and most expensive ship in the Cossacks. Cost will double so you have to make at least two. Also it's slow and coastal canon can easily sink this ship. When there is so many army that came to your island, you might have to make it. Te attack against land is fantastic. Also Ship of Line will rebel¡Äwhen that happens, it is the end of the world.

 

Characteristics of nation

As there are some special nations in land battle, there are special nations in naval battle.

 

The cost for upgrades in normal European countries:

However the cost to advance to 18c is very high there aren't so much difference with other countries. Also "Design New Tackle and Fishing Nets"'s cost is little high.

Algeria, Turkey

However Algeria doesn't have a yacht and Turkish yacht is horrible. More than that they don't have a balloon.

 

Ukraine

It can only make galleys, but galley have high defense so if there are many of them it is possible to beat the opponent. The point is how to maintain the keeping cost, but there's no need to make other ships so it isn't a big problem.

 

Venice

This nation has the unique unit called galleass. This has the defense and speed of galley and the attack of frigate so there is quite a lot of advantage. Upgrade to 18c and production of cavalry is cheep.

 

Portugal

In add-on the keeping cost of the shipyard decreased, so you can make a lot. This shipyard has a cannon so it is very hard to land on the Portuguese land.

 

Strategies

This isn't perfect and I'm still seeking for better strategies.

 

Getting ready

First, make as many yacht as you can, then don't stop the production of frigates or galleys and use cavalry to land on the opponent territory. One thing you have to be careful is that there is a keeping cost for 18c dragoon (not merc.) so if you make them so much the gold will run out and some ships will rebel.

In case of European nation, it might be a good choice to wait the attack until 18c and kill the opponent with the strong 18c ships. For other countries, make cheep ships and crush the opponent by numbers.

 

Defending the island

I think 17c musketeer is the best because there will be a quite a lot when your enemy is landing. Also keep some heavy and light riders.

 

Sinking the fishing boats

Use the cutter or yacht and let them move in the enemy's fishing zone. What will happen? Well the boats will be crushed by the yacht and enemy's lifeline will get a quite a lot of damage.

 

Surprise landing

This is to destroy opponent's mine and get the peasants. You will use the ferry and let the Cossacks land where there aren't any defending ships. The purpose of getting peasants is to make more storehouses. In naval battle, there will be many peasants so more store houses are better.

 

Landing mission

Before you land you have to destroy all the enemy ship and make a safe path for your ferry. Difficulty of the landing is one of the reason why the naval battles aren't played. To do this you have to concentrate on one place. It will take a long time but when you win the battle, opponent will need to spend a lot of time to reconstruct his navy.

When landing, you have to assist from the water. Cuirassiers will be the best unit. It might be a good strategy to land the canon and invade slowly. Making the artillery depot on enemy island is effective, but you have to be careful about artillery depot being captured

 

These are the strategies that I can think of, but I think there is more that can be found. Lets play with navy!!
