Non Public Transportation
Car
Since San Diego's public transportation is not very organized, many people own cars. To get a drivers license, we are requited to have a social security number, but the only reason Social Security Office (SSN) offer us a social security number is to apply for a job.

Instead, they will write to you a statement to get a drivers license. When you want to take a drivers license, first you need to go social security office to get a official letter from them and then brink it with your regal student visa and passport to the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).

Written examination is $12 and you may take 3 times. There is no public driving school, so if you don't know how to drive, you need to go private driving school or you may learn from your host family or friends who are age over 25 and has experiences of driving more than five years.

Driving exam is by an appointment. Please be aware that it will take more than 6 months to get an actual drivers license card. Residence people are able to get it within 2 to 3 months, but as for internationals, they will send our form to the Immigration and Naturalization Service first. You may drive with temporally license until you get a license card, but you need to renew it every 60 days.
