This information is based on my experience from April 2003 to August 2003.
Ancol Bay is localted at northern side of Jakarta, Indonesia. Ancol is some kinds of city resort. There are hotels, swimming pools, amusement park, markets, beach, sea world, disco, etc. A lot of Jakarta people come to Ancol in weekend. You can find many windsurfers in a fitness club in Hotel Horizon. All taxi drivers in Jakarta know Ancol, you just tell them "Ancol, Hotel Horizon". It takes about thirty minutes from city center, of course depends on traffic jam.
Ancol is bay and beach is facing north. There is no swell and waves. The sea is quit choppy when strong wind comes. The water is not clean, actually very dirty. If you drink some water, you may have some stomach problem next day so be carefull. There is a shower in the fitnes club.
There are windsurfers from Indonesia, Japan, USA, UK and French. Most of people are working in Jakarta.
I came here April and have stated here only 5 months so that I don't know
exactly when is the best season here. According to the local, there is
a month with no wind between May and June. In June there was no wind this
year. In July and August I use 6.5 sq.m slalome sail and sometimes 6.0
with 105 litter freestyle board. My weight is only 60 kg. Locals use 7.0
to 8.5 sq.m. Big boards like 120 litter slalom board and 7.0 over slalom
sails are quit popular in Ancol.
According to locals, there is strong wind during rainy season from November
to March.
There is no rental board available in Ancol. Locals get equipment in Singapore. Also there is no windsurfing shop in Jakarta. I don't know if there is any in Indonesia, maybe some in Bali.
