Travel note in Persia 10, I can't eat any
more!
We were invited by Sister's house in this night. They have five children, but one was studying abroad. There were six people living in this house.
Sister is much older than my husband. Her sons, my husband's nephews are almost as old as me.
I received the gold necklace again because it was the first day that I visited Sister's house. It was the necklace with the ornament of the anchor shape.
Sister went back to cook the meal. The niece began to prepare for the table at the back of the living room.
When they have a meal at home they don't use a dining table but the cloth or the plastic seat called Sofre laid on the carpet.
They can adjust the size of Sofre according to the number of the people. There were about 15 people at this house. She laid the big Sofre slenderly and the people sat down in both side on the floor.
Home cooking
It is the dish of the stew which is cooked sheep meat, vegetables and beans in home cooking. It is not hot because red pepper is not used though it looks like Indian or Arabian cooking.
They cook Indica rice in the pot. The rice burns and stick on the bottom of it. They serve the burned rice on the separate plate. It is aromatical and delicious.
The soup, the main dish, salads and rice are put on each big plate on the center of Sofre. The people help theirselves to the meal.
It is a good system for housewives to have a party invited many people because they don't need to stand up during the meal.
Still, the soup and the stew must be boiled no less than many hours. They decorate the salad beautifully by cucumbers and tomatos.
They also decorate the rice to sprinkle and make a line by brilliant yellow saffron rice. It takes nearly one day to have a big party.
Whichever party we go to, they serve the bottles of Cola. The ones made in Iran are drunk a lot in Tehran.
Though I insisted "You should not drink a lot because it has much sugar.", all said "No, carbonic acid in Cola is good for stomach. You should drink a lot."
This party menu was Supe-jou (Barley tomato soup) which Mother cooked often, Gheime-bodemjun (Stew of eggplants and beans), Lazagna(Italian food)known also in Japan, salads and so on.
Each one put a lot of rice on the flat first. Usually they eat by the spoon and the fork. Though Nan is often eaten as the staple food for the breakfast and the lunch, the rice is for the dinner.
Sisiter moved around to care all while they were eating. I was worried when she had a meal.
I ate too much already and hardly ate any more. Finally I could make my plate empty, Sister and the other people brought the big plate of Lazagna and Salads and insisted me to serve them more.
The words that I learned in Iran for the first time was that related to the meal more than a greeting like "Man khordam.(I had eaten.)" or "Man nemikhoram.(I can't eat.)"
The pro-Japanese people
After meal we had a small party of music, dance, the video and drinking Chai. One of the nephews is good at the dance and playing music.
Because he has the skill which had ever appeared in the television to play Zarb, the Iranian drum, he was making merry the most with playing Zarb and dancing with the niece.
It was popular to watch the video taken
in Japan. Iran has many pro-Japanese.
The video which saw a Japanese image
and the stereo which sounded music in Sister's
house were made by Japanese makers. It was
almost the same in the other houses.
Iranian people think that Japan is rich and the industry power of the top brand's car and electirical appliances though the prices are expensive and the people work too much to have time to play.
There is much what an Iranian knows about Japan than what a Japanese knows about Iran.
They gazed intently in the video taken in Japan in the buildings of the new airport, the scenery of the city center to see from the expressway on the way to the airport.
On the other hand, they were surprised at watching Japanese traditional houses and the mountains when we traveled in the country side.
They thought that Japan had only city buildings as well like Hong Kong.
No one lived in the first floor of Sister's house though there is on the second floor of the condominium.
We turned up stereophonic sound, danced with playing music by the nephew. We got along till 2 o'clock morning and they sent us to home by car.
