Travel note in Persia 14, Marriage meeting

The brother who lives in USA had a plan to marry in Iran. They have a lot of process so that they may get married in Iran. Because it is prohibited that a man and a woman who are not a married couple have a date.

Most of marriages are arranged. The family of the man look for the woman of marriagable age from the relative and the friend first.

So far as I saw the relatives of my husband, Iranian women marry at 18 to 23,24 years old.

The men marry at 24 to 30 years old or older because they have military service and it is late to carry out economical responsibility. Many marry earlier in the country.

Then the man visit the woman who found by his family together with his female relatives like his mother, sisters, sisters-in-law.

Because I am the brother's sister-in-law, I always had visited the woman with him, the mother and the sister. It is no good in Iran to show the women in front of many men even for the marriage meeting.

Visit

Generaly mothers make some appointments to see the marriagable women who introduced by the other relatives.

In Japan some marriages are arranged. The matchmakers bring a photogragh of the man to the woman and her photogragh to him. Then they decide respectively whether they see each other.

There was nothing like that in Iran. They can not take a woman's photograph unreasonably except for the near family.

After a while one of the relatives introduced the brother a woman from his far relative. We had a meeting with a view of marriage one day.

They did not talk about the marriage and it ends only chat in the first day. It seemed like the usual visitor at all.

People made a chat with having Chai and fruits in this meeting. It was much different than the meeting that I imagined. It was imformal and just usual.

They must decide whether they gets married very soon after the meeting.

The encounter

A man and a woman seldom meet each other in the outside. It seemed only the opportunity of the encounter more than the meeting with a view of marriage.

The man and the woman talk only 2 or 3 words each other. I think there is the back groung that they know each other and their family well because they are the relatives or the children of the close friends of the relatives.

In fact many Iranian marry to his or her cousin, and they believe the reliable adoption. The cousins seem to a brother and a sister because the relatives relation is close in Iran. Brother did not have the female cousin of the marriagable age.
