Cause : ACtinobacillus lignieresii |

Transmission : Discharge of infected animals Ingestion of contaminated pasture or feed. Injury to the buccal mucosa permits easy of infection. |

Clinical signs and lesions : -Affected animal is unable to eat for 48 hours. -Excessive salivation, gentle chewing of the tongue. -Swollen and hard tongue which later becomes shrunken and immobile which interferes prehension. -Lymphadenitis -Enlargement of subaxillay and paroid nodes. -Local firm swellings on the head develop and reputure with discharge of thin odorous pus. -Enlargement of retropharyngeal nodes leading to loud snoring respiration. |

Recommendations : -Quick treatment of affected animals and the prevention of contamination of pasture and feed troughs. -Isolation or disposal of animals with discharging lesions. -Oral or intravenous dosing of iodides maybe used. |
