Brucellosis

Local name : Nakuhaan, Nakunan

Cause : Brucella abortus

Transmission
:
-Congential, venereal or ingestion of contaminated material
-Indirect infection through artificial insemination and mechanical hosts such as flies and external parasites.
-Transmitted to humans through the conjunctive (eyes) and the respiratory tract but most often breaks in the skin.

Clinical signs and lesions
:
-Inflammation of testicles.
-Inflammation of the uterus.
-Abortion during last trimester of pregnancy.
-Stillbirths and conception failures.
-Reduce milk yield.
-Retained placenta.

Recommendations
:
-Veterinarians, meat handlers are considered high risk population that can contact the disease. Careless handling of causes of -Burucellosis makes these groups very susceptible.
-Use if protective articles such as gloves, masks, and goggles should never be neglected when handling animals suspected of the disease.
-Avoid drinling unpasteurized milk
-Test and slautghter.
