Coccidiosis

Cause
: Eimeria spp

Transmission :
-
Source of infection is the feces of clinically affected or carrier animals.
-Infection is acquired by ingestion of contaminated feeds and water or by licking the haircoat contaminated with infected feces.

Clinical signs and lesions :

-Mild fever may occur in the early stages but in most clinical cases the temperature is normal or subnormal.
-Sudden onset of severe diarrhea and watery feces containing mucous and blood.
-Animals may recover and regain condition slowly.


Recommendation
:
-Sulfa medicine may be used with caution.
-Hygiene and avoidance be kept dry and clean.
-Young animals should be separated from adults to prevent infection.
-Feed and water troughs should be elevated to avoid fecal contamination.
