Transmission : -Usually takes place in stagnant water and swampy area where snails are found. After passing thru a number of stages of development in the snail, worm escapes and swim around finally attaches itself to a plant leaf, which is eaten by the host animal. In the host, the infective stage burrows through the wall of the intestine into the abdominal cavity and migrates to the liver and bile ducts where it develops into adults. -May occur in human. |

Clinical signs : -In acute form -watery and bloody diarrhea, emaciation, jaundice, anemia, edema(dewlap and throat), poor hair coat, decreased body weight and death. -Chronic form -diarrhea, emaciation, jaundice, edema at the dewlap and throat, poor haircoat and decrease in meat and milk production. -Death occurs in about 2-3 months if left untreated. |

Recommendation : -Snail control by chemicals, biogical anf physical means. -Refrain from pasturing animals in infested swampy areas. -Treatment using flukecides or broad spectrum. |
