Cause : Corynebacterium pyogenes
|
Transmission :
- Ocuurs after abnormal parturition or gross
uterine contamination.
- Delayed uterine involution is a major predisposing
factor.
- Associated with stress caused by dystocia,
abortion and malnutrition.

Clinical signs and lesions :
- Fetid discharge from uterus.
- In severely affected animals, the uterus
is atonic and several gallons of fluid may
accumulate.
- Systemic signs include fever, anorexia and
depression.
- The uterus may be swoolen and fragile.
- Chronically affected animals may lose condition,
and fertility potential may be impaired.

Recommendation :
- Proper management, sanitation, and handling
of animals during parturition. An early post-partum
period to prevent infection of uterus.
- If artificial insemination is employed, semen
should be free of possible infectious agent
and be deposited in hygienic manner at mid-cervix
or uterine body but not on the uterine horn.
- Uterus should be irrigated by antibiotic
or disinfection medicine, which is accompanied
by antibiotic treatment.
