| Paramphistomiasis |
Cause : Paramphistomum spp.
|
Transmission : Ingestion of contaminatted pasture with
encysted cercarise.
|
Clinical signs and lesions :
- Heavy infection with immature flukes causes
persistent diarrhea, weakness, depression,
dehydration and inappetence.
- Death usually occurs 15-20 days after the
first signs appears.
- In heavy infection loss of weight, anemia,
rough dry coat and a drop in production.
|
Recommendation :
- Control of snail host using appropriate molluscides
and snail predators like ducks.
- Drain stagnant ponds and canals to reduce
snail population.
- Fencing off infested areas to avoid grazing
of animals on contaminated pasture.
- Use of flukecides to control both mature
and immature flukes.
