| Ruminal Tympany |

Causes :
- Grazing legume pasture and those fed with
legumes, hays and high concentrate rations.
- Complete esophageal obstruction or choke
can result when an animal swallows incom-pletely
chewsd, relatively soild feeds.
- Marked hypocalcemia can result in failure
of the ruminal, musculature to contract which
would contribute to the rumen decreased ability
to eliminate fermentation gas.
- Miseating of plastic sack or vinyl bags,
which are undigestable.

Clinical signs and lesions :
- Distention of the left paralimber fossa and
abdomen.
- Discomfort and animal may get up and lie
down difficulty in breathing.
- Excessive salivation.
- Lungs are compressed.
- Rumen is distended.
- Pale liver due to expulsion of blood from
the organ.
- Thoracic portion of the esphagus is pale.
- Kicking at the belly.

Recommendation :
- Administer a sulfactant (Poloxalene or ethoxylate),
a detergent or mineral oil.
- Avoid grazing mainly legume pasture and on
high level grain diets.
- Clean up and not waste plastic matters that
undigestable and cow's favorite.
