Cause : Thelazia spp. |
Transmission :
The face fly Musca autumnalis is a common
vector. They feed on eye secretion of cattle
which provides an ideal relationship of transmission.

Clinical signs and lesions :
- Gross examination of the eye may reveal the
worms.
- Mild to severe inflamation of the conjunctiva
and opacity of the cornea.
- Ulceration and perforation in severe cases.
- Excessive lacrimation.
- Photophobia. keratitis.
- Abscess formation on the eyelids.

Recommendations:
- Mechanical removal of worms with forceps
following instillation of a local anesthetic
- Fly control measures especially of face flies.
