10キロの小さな旅と愛着のある電車で親しまれている鉄道業は、明治35年9月1日に営業を開始し、明治43年11月4日に藤沢〜鎌倉(小町)間10キロを39駅で結ぶ全線が開通しました。

現在では、15駅になりましたが、沿線は、江の島をはじめ稲村ガ崎、長谷観音、大仏等名所史跡が多く、永年の歴史を感じさせる鉄道です。

最近では、各種イベント列車等の運行を積極的に開催して、好評を得ております。

1日延べ運行キロ1,707キロ、輸送人員は、1日平均3万8千人で、定期旅客と定期外旅客の比率は定期35.4%、定期外64.6%と観光路線としての特徴を示しております。(2004年度末)
