１０キロの小さな旅と愛着のある電車で親しまれている鉄道業は、明治３５年９月１日に営業を開始し、明治４３年１１月４日に藤沢〜鎌倉（小町）間１０キロを３９駅で結ぶ全線が開通しました。 現在では、１５駅になりましたが、沿線は、江の島をはじめ稲村ガ崎、長谷観音、大仏等名所史跡が多く、永年の歴史を感じさせる鉄道です。 最近では、各種イベント列車等の運行を積極的に開催して、好評を得ております。 １日延べ運行キロ１，７０７キロ、輸送人員は、１日平均３万８千人で、定期旅客と定期外旅客の比率は定期３５．４％、定期外６４．６%と観光路線としての特徴を示しております。(２００４年度末)
