インドネシアのバリ島で休暇を過ごしたとき、海岸線は小さな貝殻が砂になった様な白くてさらさらした心地よいものでした。
ところが、そこに思わぬ落とし穴があったのです。
あまりにも砂が軽くてさらさらしている為、波が来た時に足元の砂が勢い良く流れて行き、ちょうど足払いに掛かったような状態になってあっという間も無く私はものの見事にひっくり返されてしまいました。
そのとき、韓国で買ったお気に入りの七宝焼きのコーティングが施されたサングラスをしていたのですが、ちょうどスローモーションを見るように私の顔からサングラスが波にさらわれて行きました。
私のそのときの失意は相当なもので、危険を顧みず波打ち際にしゃがみ込み、あたりを探しました。そのときの様子が、ちょうど溺れているかの様であり、ライフガードの人が飛んできて私を無常にもサングラスの落ちたあたりから引き離してしまったのです。
サングラスを無くした悔しさを、そのとき一緒に行った友人に話すと、彼も一緒になって探してくれました。
結局、翌日早朝の、波が穏やかなときにも再び探してみましたが有りませんでした。
私は友人に、「サングラスはパスポートも持たないで勝手に旅に出てしまったらしい。今度、シンカ゛ホ゜ールかタイでも探してみるよ。」と言ったら、そうかもしれないと言ってくれた。
彼がサンフランシスコに帰った後、暫くして、「時々海に出てサングラスを探したが、どうも通過して南アメリカのほうに向かった様だ」との便りが届いた。
本当に良いやつだ。

The appearance at that time, it is just drowned, the lifeguard's person came immediately, and mutability also has pulled me apart from the hit to which sunglasses drop.
When mortifying to lose sunglasses, I spoke to my friend who went there together with me at that time, and he looked for my sunglasses with me again.
After all, it was not though I looked for again when the wave was the early morning of the next day calm.
It was said that I might be so if it was said to the friend, "Sunglasses seemed to have gone out to travel without permission without having the passport . Looked for also in Singapore or Thailand this time".
For a while, I reached of the letter from my friend with "It seems to face South America by passing very much though I sometimes reached the sea, I looked for your sunglasses" where he had returned to San Francisco.
