某国立大学では入試に聞き取りが2005年度から取り入れられ、小学校で英語が必修科目になるのは時間の問題という。しかし、英語を使って授業をする英語の教師は非常に少ないのが現状だろう。教師の力量もさることながら、楽しい授業をしたいと思うなら、外国語教師はまず自分がその外国語を楽しく使っている姿を見せるのが一番ではないかと考える。たとえ、つたないものでも。授業中に、bilingual methodでまず英語で話し、すぐそれを日本語で言うというやり方をやってみようと思う。よく使うだろう言い回しを少しずつここに書いていくので、慣れていただきたい。

｛考え方の基本｝ The nature of language is sound. 言語の本質は音声です。

＜1回の授業の流れの中で使われる代表的な英語＞※下から順番です。
・So much for today.今日はこれで終りです。
・Hand in the attendance slip and leave.出席票を出してから退出しなさい。
・I will give you an attendance slip.出席票を渡します。
・I will give you a handout.プリントを配ります。
・I will explain today's points.今日の要点を説明します。
・Let's do some exercises.少し練習問題をしましょう。
・Turn over the sheet. プリントを裏返しなさい。
・Underline the parts I point out.私が指摘する箇所に下線を引きなさい。
・Read the text after me.本文を私の後について読みなさい。
・Read aloud the corresponding part of the text.本文の対応する部分を音読しなさい。

<How you get credits.>単位をどう取るか
・You must attend this class at least 12 times throughout the year.
年間通じて少なくとも12回この授業に出席しなければなりません。
・This course is worth three credits.この科目は3単位です。
・There are nine "reports"(=assignments) in all. 全部で9つﾚﾎﾟｰﾄがあります。
・You must keep handing in your "report" until your teacher OK's it.
ﾚﾎﾟｰﾄは先生のOKがでるまで出し続けなければなりません。
・Don't throw away your "reports" even after your teacher OK'd them.
OKガ出ても、レポートは捨ててはいけません。
・There are three exams in allーone for each term.テストは3つある、各範囲に1回。
・The passing grade is 40.合格点は40点です。
・You must get a total of 120-40 on the average.
・If you fail your test, be sure take a retest.もしテストを落としたら、必ず再テストを受けること。
・As for retest, even if you get 100, your grade is 40. 再テストでは、満点を取っても40点です。
・So try to get a score of 40 or more.だから40点以上取るようにしなさい。

・Take your time.あわてないでいいですよ。
・You can pass if you want to.パスしてもいいよ。（この場合、"I will pass."と言います）
