Coleman 200 & 200A

In this page, I made some notes regarding only US made Model 200 & 200A.
If you're interested in Canadian Model 200, please see the page of Model 202's.

In 1950, Coleman started to produce this single mantled gasoline lantern, "Model 200".

It has nickel plated brass fount with a built-in pump and has "red" porcelain enamel ventilator.
Its base rest & burner assembly were made of brass, while frame & burner cap were made of "steel" and the base of the frame has a lot of holes.
Its fuel cap is larger than Model 242's and the same as Model 220-228's.
It has Sunrise-Mark & model number on base rest, Sunrise-Mark on the side of fount and a date code on the bottom of fount.

This particular one was made in USA, Jan. 1951.

Here is another type of Model 200.

The only difference from above is, it has dark green painted brass fount.

It was made in Apr. 1951.

Sometime in 1951, Coleman changed model 200's material of the fount and base rest from "brass" to "steel" and named "Model 200A".

This one was made in Aug. 1951.

This is another type of Model 200A which was made in Sep. 1951.

As you can see in the image, it has a decal on the side of fount.

In 1952, Coleman changed 200A's paint color of the fount from "green" to "red" and base frame to "black".

The design of decal was also changed with yellow border.

This one was made in Feb. 1952.

In early 1953, the design of base frame changed, but still with black painted.

And sometime in this year, the burner cap changed to porcelain-made from brass.

In late 1953, base frame again changed from black-painted to silver-painted.

This one was made in Feb. 1953.

This 200A was made in Aug. 1954.
Please note it has the porcelain-made burner cap.

Sometime in cir. 1955, base rest was changed from steel to aluminum and burner cap was changed from porcelain-made to brass.

In this late '50s, at last, Model 200A entered into "the first stable period"

This one was made in Jan. 1958

In late 1959 or early 1960, there was a minor change and screw of pump cap was replaced with clip.
The design of decal was changed a bit sometime in mid. 1961 as well.
You can see these changes in right image.

This is a Model 200A made in Jul. 1961 and is quoted from "Burgundy freak" Mamoru Kobayashi's collection with his permission.
Thanks Mamoru.

From late 1961 to mid. 1962, Coleman changed 200A's paint & porcelain color to "dark red".
And the design of decal was changed again.

This one was made in Oct. 1961

Please see the next image too, as you can distinguish the differences well.

Here are all "Burgundy Red 200A" and are quoted from one of my fellows,
"Burgundy freak" Mamoru Kobayashi's collection with his permission.
Thanks Mamoru.

Sometime in mid. 1962, color of fount & ventilator was returned to "normal red".

This one was made in Jul. 1962

Sometime in 1963, Coleman changed the shape of 200A's ventilator.
And again the design of decal was changed.

This one was made in Sep. 1964
It has Sunrise-Mark & date on the bottom of fount.

In late 1964 or early 1965, the design of decal was again changed.

In this late '60s, Model 200A entered into "the second stable period"

This one was made in Jul. 1965.

Since 1970, there were still so many minor changes in this model.
But I'm afraid I don't follow all of them.

This one was made in Jul. 1977.

The left is a Coleman Model 200A in green colour with a carry case and is quoted from Mark Peterson's collection with his permission. It was made in USA in Dec. 1980.
The right is a Coleman Model 201 which runs on kerosene and is quoted from Doron Papo's collection with his permission. It was made in USA in Sep. 1978. It has a replacement decal as the original was gone.
Thanks Mark and Doron.
