 接続詞and/or/but
■and,orの用法
●and…「〜と、そして」の意味。
or…「〜か、または」の意味。 二つとも語、句、文を結びつけるのに用いる。
【例文】
Will they come before lunch or after lunch?. [語句＋語句]
（彼らは昼食前に来ますか、昼食後に来ますか）
I was reading books, and they were playing tennis. [文＋文]
（私は読書をし、彼らはテニスをしていた）
■butの用法
●but…「しかし、〜だが」の意味。反対のこと、対照的なことを表す。
not〜but...は「〜ではなくて…」の意味。
【例文】
We named the dog Tiny,but it isn't tiny now. [文＋文]
（私達はその犬をチビと名づけたが、今は小さくない）
That is not our dog but Ichiro. [not〜but]
（あれは私達の犬ではなくイチローのです）
■for,soの用法
●fort…「というのは〜だから」の意味。理由をつけ加えるのに用いる。
so…「それで、だから〜」の意味。結果をつけ加えるのに用いる。
【例文】
We can not see the stars in the daytime, for the sun is too bright.
[文＋文]
（星は昼間は見えない。というのは太陽が明るすぎるからです）
Mother is busy, so I often help her. [文＋文]
（母は忙しい。それで私はよく彼女の手伝いをする）
