Ikebana Grand Prix 2010

The 84th All Japan Ikebana Competition
Ikebana Grand Prix is an ikebana competition sponsored by the Teikoku Kadou-in, an association with an eighty year history.
Everyone is eligible to participate in this competition.

The Ikebana Grand Prix is divided into the following six categories:

All participants are required to use an official name placard. If you do not already have it, please purhase one from Teikoku Kadou-in. The cost is \4000 & should be included with the participation fee

Confirmation Teikoku Kadou-in will issue a letter to confirm acceptance within one week of receipt of total required fees. If there is no response after one week from submitting your form & money transfer, please contact the office.

Please attend the explanation meeting. A lottery for exhibition spaces will be held. Participants will receive all necessary items & information. In the case of absence, the executive committee will draw lots for placement.

Preparations & Start

10:00 - 12:30 Carrying in materials and reception check-in Please carry all materials to your place & go to the reception desk
Prepare and stand by for a floral material check -- please refer to exhibition regulations for details; ( e.g., water can be placed into container ).
13:00 - 13:25 Floral material check Please be at your space & have all floral materials out for a supervisory check
13:30 Start ikebana work Please complete your ikebana, clean up & be able to exit within 2 hrs. & 30 mins.
16:00 Completion of work
( Challenge Space ends at 15:30.)
Please note the time frame for Challenge Space is 2 hours.
16:15 Judging
( Challenge Space from 15:45.)

Certificates of Award, Certificates of Special Merit & Placque for Special Teacher. All awarded membersare invited to attend the New Year Party; fee \15000.

Competition Regulations

The following rules should be observed during the competition; failure to do so may lead to elimination.
1. Please do all arranging work alone; please prepare floral materials & container(s) that you can handle by yourself. Assistance by others (carrying, getting water, layout, etc.)is allowed until the floral check time.

2 Ikebana work may be constructed before to a simple degree. Please do all arranging during the competition.

3. Please do not put any floral materials into containers before the start. Water may be put in ahead of time.

4. Ikebana work should be basically plant materials, not man-made materials.

5. Please be careful to make your work in the correct dimensions. Please check with a supervisor if not sure.

6. Please arrange your own original work.


Competition- Attention Points

1. Please keep absolutely quiet during the competition. Complete work in time to clear away all items & wait outside in the designated area.

2. A competition participant /exhibitor is responsible for maintaining his/her own work in an attractive condition.

3. The exhibition executive committee has the authority to instruct participants about their ikebana or ask for removal of damaged work.

4. Please use only the official exhibition name placard purchased from Teikoku Kadou-in (\4000).

5. No alterations can be made to the competition/exhibition spaces, e.g., painting color, attaching things, nailing ,etc.

6. Volatile liquids, flammable products or items with strong odors are not permitted..

7. Use of a power supply is not possible..

8. Scores will be posted anonymously. No enquiries about judging will be accepted.

Judging Method

The judges committee consists of Flower Masters & other professionals, such as a food researcher & the wife of an ambassador. The judges for each category will review each work & give a point score. The highest points & lowest points will be eliminated & the remaining points will be averaged to determine the final score. Awards will be given in order of the highest scores. All participants will be recognized for their participation.
