1. Name
The official name for the committee shall be the Second Tokyo
Poetry Festival and Sixth World Haiku Association Conference
2011 Executive Committee, and the abbreviated name shall be the
TPF2&WHAC6 2011 Executive Committee.
2. Charter
In light of the results from the Tokyo Poetry Festival 2008
and the ten year track record of the World Haiku Association
Conference, this committee is organized in order to hold the
Second Tokyo Poetry Festival and Sixth World Haiku Association
Conference 2011 (hereinafter referred to as "TPF2&WHAC6
2011") as an international poetry festival in Tokyo.
TPF2&WHAC6 2011 conveys the three genres of Japanese poetry,
tanka, and haiku to the world, while also inviting poets from
overseas. By doing so, the interaction of Japanese and overseas
poetry produces fresh inspiration, and serves as a creative opportunity
to elevate the poetry cultures of Japan and the world.
1) Background to and Purpose of the Establishment
Backed by a long history, Japanese poetry came to be a literature
with distinctive styles that include poems, tanka, and haiku,
and which breathes live into our contemporary lives. Making poets
from around the world aware of this rich poetic spirit will contribute
enormously to spreading awareness of Japanese culture throughout
the world.
Yet at the same time, being exposed to recitations from poets
who are active at the forefront around the world and coming into
direct contact with their spirit will undoubtedly bring about
fresh inspiration for poets of Japanese poetry, tanka, and haiku.
International exchanges for poets have traditionally been carried
out in a manner whereby a limited number of people are invited
to overseas poetry festivals. But 2005's Euro-Japan Poetry Festival
in Tokyo and 2008's Tokyo Poetry Festival 2008, as well as the
World Haiku Association Conference-which has been held five times,
including overseas-made clear the significance of holding poetry
festivals in Japan. In carrying on with their results and track
record, we would like to look toward the future of poetry as
exchanges with different regions, including the West and Asia
outside of the West.
We will hold the Second Tokyo Poetry Festival and Sixth World
Haiku Association Conference 2011 in the world famous city of
Tokyo with the hope of both raising Japanese poetry's presence
and furthering its development.
2) Content of Activities
・ Decide on the dates to hold the festival (September 09-11 2011.
Meiji University's Liberty Hall, etc.)
・ Secure the number of personnel needed to hold the festival,
and organize and manage them.
・ Procure the funding needed to hold the festival.
・ Secure the venues and so on needed to hold the festival.
・ Carry out publicity activities.
・ Compile the results.
3. Burden of Membership Fees and Operating Costs
As a general rule the activities will be on a volunteer-basis,
and the necessary expenses will be covered by contributions and
entrance fees on the days of the festival.
