　今年の夏休みは３年生にとって今までとは違う夏休みになる。「天下分け目の夏休み」とか「夏を制する者は受験を制す」とか言われているように非常に大切なこの夏を有意義に過ごしてもらいたい。

学校長の話
　４月以来いろいろな人に会っていろいろ話しを聞いた。その中で最も印象に残っているのは東京大学の尾嶋教授（３年の学年集会で話しを聞きました）の言葉。「人生一発勝負」人間は節目節目で勝負をかけなければならないときがある。東大の教授になるための準備では自分を売り込むために、何日もかけて体調を整え、完全な準備をしたという話し。
　赴任以来言い続けてきた「考える」そして「その考えを目標に向かって実行に移す」ことが大切である。先ほど先生から注意を受けていたがそれは「マナーでありエチケットである」それをわかって欲しい。

　卒業、進級のための単位修得の話しがありました。

生徒指導部長の話
　高校生にとっての夏休みは授業がないだけで普通の生活をしなければならない。
「生徒と先生との協力態勢、良い信頼関係を作ってもらいたい。つまらんことで先生を煩わすな」「道路交通法の改正について、自転車運転中の携帯、ヘッドホンは５万円以下の罰金になった。が法律より、危険だからやめろ」
夏休みは自由に使える時間はたっぷりある。それを有効に使ってもらいたい。特に３年生、進路目標に向かって頑張ってもらいたい。

Mark’s 2008 Summer Vacation Speech
Internationalization, that’s a big word.  You might be thinking, “Why must I learn English?  I don’t need it in Japan.”  Well, it’s true.  You don’t need it in Japan.  But, outside of Japan, you do.  I have been very lucky to meet students who have travelled abroad; students who have been to America, Canada, Mongolia, and many other places.  They all came
back to Japan with excellent English.  Why?  It’s because they needed it. English is the language that connects the whole world together.  Look at the internet.  “www” means worldwide web.  And most of the internet is in…English.  So, what does this mean for you?It means, if you really want to have the most fun in your life; if you want to have an adventure, then experiencing new cultures and travelling outside of Japan is what you should do.  To leave your own country and live in a new one is very exciting!  I know.  When I left Canada and came to Japan, I was very nervous.  But I was also very excited.  Everything was new to me, including the language.  I realized that when living in the inaka, English wasn’t enough.  So I had to study Japanese.I will tell you the most important thing about studying a language: don’t be afraid to make mistakes.  Don’t be afraid!  Everyone makes mistakes with another language.  When I came to Japan, I made my first mistake 5 seconds after I got off the plane.  August 5 is my birthday.  August 5 was also when I came to Japan.  So when I got off the plane, I shouted to everyone, “私は。。。バースデーです!!!”  Japanese people looked at each other; very confused.  “あの外国人を全然分からへん。。。”  I hadn’t been in Japan for more than 1 minute, and I was already making mistakes.But it’s okay because I’m learning.  And learning is more important than always trying to be perfect.  So don’t be afraid to make mistakes.I’m here to teach you English.  But I’m also here to show you that people from other countries are very different.  Mark-sensei is very crazy!  He wears short sleeves during the winter!  He eats curry and rice everyday!  He can’t play baseball!  He has crazy hair… So, I teach you English.  But I also teach you about my culture.  I’m trying to teach you that Canadians…are very crazy people!  Ryan-sensei was crazy!  Mark-sensei is crazy too!  Maybe I’m more crazy.So keep learning English because it is very useful.  When you travel outside of Japan, English will help you.  And remember, learning English doesn’t have to be just studying.  Learning English can be fun.  Thank you for listening.  Enjoy your summer vacation!
